Empowering Women in Tech: The Sisterhood Club Story

Technology is reshaping industries at lightning speed, and now, more than ever, there's a pressing need for diversity and inclusivity in the workforce.?

My career in tech started over a decade ago now. I joined a technology recruitment firm and began headhunting talent for organisations. What struck me from day 1 was the lack of women I spoke to on both ends of the hiring spectrum.?

On one side, I was working with all male hiring managers, and on the other side, I spoke to all male candidates.?

It was something I became more conscious of throughout my career, and I became increasingly more passionate about creating change.?

In 2018, alongside my business partner Pam Caldwell, I set up our technology recruitment firm, CH Talent Solutions.?

Our mission was to provide a world-class service for our clients and candidates and always provide diversity in our shortlists whenever possible.?

Over the past six years,?42% of all our placements across technology have been female, and we continue to see this increase each quarter.?

We strongly believe when it comes to DEI, it's not just about filling quotas; it's about harnessing the full potential of talent from all walks of life. This passion fueled the creation of Sisterhood Club, an initiative to empower and champion gender equality in Australian workplaces.

As the co-founder of Sisterhood Club, my journey began with a simple realisation: women in the technology industry were vastly underrepresented, and their voices were often drowned out in a sea of male dominance.?

This hit me smack bang in the face when I flew up to the Gold Coast to speak on a panel on, ironically, “Why Diversity Matters in Technology”. As I sat on the stage, I looked around and saw only a handful of women in the audience. I knew at that point I had to do something to help rewrite this narrative. So, I set out to create something where women could thrive, flourish, and lead.

Our mission at Sisterhood Club is clear: to help cultivate workplaces where every woman feels valued, supported, and equipped with the necessary tools to excel in their careers.?

Central to our approach is education. We understand that knowledge is power, and that's why we offer a diverse range of resources to our community.?

Each week, I interview industry experts on our Career Confidence podcast to showcase what a successful career can look like. I also speak with leadership coaches, business owners, psychologists, and thought leaders to empower our community, and equip them with all the tools they need to succeed across all areas of their lives and careers.?

On top of our weekly podcasts, we run three events each year called Sisterhood Socials.??

These events are not just your average networking event. At each event, we have a panel of speakers who share their career insights and wisdom.

Our next event is coming up on the 24th of April, and we will be chatting with three amazing female CTOs who will share what it takes to be a technology leader in this ever-changing industry.?

You can’t be what you can’t see, which is why we are committed to amplifying the stories and experiences of women who have shattered glass ceilings and defied expectations. By showcasing their journeys, we not only celebrate their achievements but also pave the way for future generations of women to follow in their footsteps.

We hope that for every voice we elevate it causes a ripple effect that extends far beyond the confines of our community.?

With each woman we empower, we're not just changing individual lives; we're shaping the future of the tech industry as a whole.?

We hope to contribute to a future where diversity is not just a buzzword and where women are not just participants but leaders, innovators, and visionaries.

I know that the road ahead may be challenging, but I also know that the impact we're making is worth every obstacle we face.?

We want to rewrite the narrative of women in tech, one success story at a time.
