Empowering women
Progress Housing Group
Our focus has always been to create better housing, support independence and create new opportunities for people.
Tomorrow is International Women's Day. A day we celebrate the strength, resilience, and incredible journeys of women worldwide.
We are sharing a blog by Sian, who has worked for the Group and now our charity partner, Key Unlocking Futures, for over 25 years as a women's refuge support worker, supporting women experiencing domestic abuse. After going through her own personal healing journey, Sian is just about to launch her own focus group dedicated to women who have experienced domestic abuse. The group aims to create a safe and nurturing space for women to connect, share, and heal.
"I've been on my own healing journey for a number of years, mainly due to not feeling good enough. My inspiration to set up the group has come from suffering and seeking connection. In the past, I would wear my armour, being bold, courageous and strong, to help me face the world, but really it kept me numb and disconnected. It was my way of feeling safe. However, through accessing various alternative therapies and healing modalities, I feel empowered and more me, and I want to help other women feel the same.
"Having worked with women experiencing domestic abuse for 25 years, both at Clare House Women's Refuge and within the community, I have witnessed many successful transformations of women who have grown in confidence and built a brighter future for themselves. However, I have also seen women continue the same patterns, meeting the same perpetrator with a different mask, and looking outward for validation.
The group I'm starting is intended for all women who have had a history of domestic abuse and are still suffering from the psychological and emotional impact. It's for those who may still be seeking validation from others, people-pleasing, over-giving, and attracting relationships and friendships that continue to feed this pattern.
With the group, I'm hoping women will come and connect in a safe space, enjoy a coffee and cake, share their experiences and help establish interest in running a healing program. Sometimes after a woman has finished receiving support from a service, she can have days where she feels lost and is struggling. This group is for them too. We will go through practices that encourage inward reflection, accessing intuition, and finding true empowerment. I believe true healing comes from the mirrors—the reflection and connection of the women who participate. By listening, empowering, and lifting each other we create a space where the magic happens.
Progress Housing Group and Key Unlocking Futures are dedicated to providing services and creating opportunities for women to rebuild their lives and thrive in safe and supportive environments.
As we celebrate International Women's Day let's work together to ensure that every woman and girl has access to safety, choice and a voice.
