Empowering Women for a Green Future: A New Chapter in Uganda’s Green Transformation

In a dynamic step towards sustainable development, the Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa (WE4D) Uganda enterprise technical working group, alongside technical officials from the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development (MGLSD), recently convened to pre-select up to 600 women’s groups from the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP). These groups, operating within key green sectors—such as Sustainable Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, and Eco-tourism—are set to play a pivotal role in Uganda's green transformation.

Green sectors being focused on: Sustainable Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, and Eco-tourism.

The Women Economic Empowerment for the Green Transformation (WEEG-UWEP) initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of these women-led enterprises by creating jobs, increasing income, and improving gender-specific working conditions. This initiative empowers women to be at the forefront of the green economy, driving sustainable practices across various sectors, including Blue Economy & Aquaculture, Biomass Waste Management, Transport, and Construction.

This ambitious intervention is part of GIZ Uganda 's #WE4D Program, implemented in collaboration with MGLSD and other key partners. Commissioned by the European Union , the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and the Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation ,this program is a testament to the collective commitment to fostering green entrepreneurship and economic empowerment for women in Uganda.
