Empowering Women in Construction: Celebrating International Women's Day at TradeConnex
TradeConnex PTY LTD
A professional and reliable recruitment company that specialises in construction & Renewable energy recruitment
This International Women's Day, we're turning the spotlight on the women who work in our workplace at TradeConnex, in a sector that is mostly dominated by men.?
At TradeConnex, we believe in cheering on our team to dream big and climb high, no matter their gender. Women account for over half of the global population and represent untapped potential. It's a sheer loss - both morally and practically - to let their voices be sidelined from the corridors of power and decision-making.?
This year's theme is #InspireInclusion. The goal of this theme is to inspire everyone to come together collectively to make the world more inclusive for women and to foster a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.
So, today, as you glance around your workplace, take a moment to reflect on the diversity around you and consider how you can contribute to building a more inclusive environment. Recognise the unique strengths and perspectives that women bring to the table, and commit to amplifying their voices, not just today, but every day.?
I asked three of the women in our office at TradeConnex to share their insights on working within the construction industry, and this is how it went.?
Introducing Chloe, a Recruitment Consultant working in the Building and Construction sector of TradeConnex.
Chloe is really passionate about championing women in leadership positions, even dating back to her completing her master's degree, this is a topic she researched greatly.?
Speaking on women in leadership positions, Chloe said: "This is a topic I am particularly passionate about, as I completed a 6-month research project during my master's degree in management and marketing on 'Covid-19 and the Future of Female Leadership in Business'. I think there will always be challenges to overcome in a male-dominated industry. Some of these challenges include gender bias and a lack of education on how women and men can be allies. It's important for us to actively include women in leadership to prevent a gender bias outcome. Feminism movements have allowed women to work in all areas of construction now. I am extremely grateful to the women who fought for our ability to work in this industry today. Similar to a relay, we must now take the baton and continue the work. As more women are provided with opportunities to work in construction, they demonstrate our value in the industry.??

Up next, we spoke to Sophie, a Renewable Energy Recruitment Consultant at TradeConnex.?
Sophie shared her insights:? "Being a female working within the construction and renewables industry, I have faced many challenges, but the main one would be gender stereotypes leading to bias, which made it difficult to be taken seriously or be seen as competent in a male-dominated industry. My biggest achievement within the construction and renewables sector would be landing a leading hand role while working on Wellington solar farm, leading a team of 8 people including males. Coming into the industry with zero background knowledge or experience was an eye-opening experience which I believe I took in my stride and had the best possible outcome."?
Finally, we spoke with Katie, a Renewable Energy Recruitment Expert at TradeConnex.
"There is so much opportunity within construction, and especially within the Renewables sector, for young women to thrive in a long-term career; leading teams in exciting new projects whilst simultaneously helping to shape the future to become green.?
There is nothing I love seeing more than companies posting photos on LinkedIn of their new apprentices and seeing more young women joining as the years go on. So, the changes are already taking place, more and more women are joining the industry, and I hope to see this continue long into the future.?
On this International Women's Day, it’s important to reflect on the progress that has been made and the work that still lies ahead. It’s important for men in these industries to be our allies and support women in the workplace in having equal rights.?
At TradeConnex, we're proud to spotlight the achievements and insights of Chloe, Sophie, and Katie. It's a reminder to all of us, regardless of our roles or industries, to play an active part in breaking down barriers, opening up opportunities, and working towards a future where gender diversity is not just encouraged but embraced. Let's continue to champion the women around us, advocating for their growth, celebrating their achievements, and pushing through glass ceilings together.?
