“I oversee the HR function, and that entails a lot of things. One is talent acquisition, and another is talent management which includes performance reviews and employee? development,” Killen said.?

Killen and her team also take on the critical task of communicating with employees in the Bank about upcoming employee events, benefits, policies and trainings, and all-staff meetings. While HR is important in every organization, banks are held to important regulatory requirements, so handling this communication and making sure everyone is on the same page is critical.

“Obviously, people are the most important part of an organization,” Killen said. “They’re the ones that get things done, and good communication is key. We make sure that we have programs in place to keep our staff motivated, engaged, growing, and ultimately retained so the bank continues to succeed.”?

Killen says that providing a positive, healthy workplace environment starts with leadership and extends throughout the organization. It’s all about hiring good people who follow sensible policy and treat others with respect, she says. Killen also says that Forbright Bank is able to attract top talent due to our mission alignment with sustainability, strong benefits, and the trust we place in employees.

“We treat people like adults. We’re flexible with schedules and give them the tools and autonomy to deliver their best work,” Killen said.?

Team members are also provided 3 days to volunteer every year at?the organization(s) of their choosing.
