Empowering a Team During the Pandemic

COVID-19 has certainly tested the limits of people around the world. At Acoustic, we pride ourselves on innovation, dealing with change, going against the grain, and being resilient. One of our teams that has been truly put to the test is our GTM Team in EMEA and APJ.

Our colleagues are one resilient group. Prior to the pandemic, many of the group averaged a comfortable 10k steps/day. Flash forward to the pandemic with 'stay at home' orders and high usage of video chat, and the team was struggling to move away from their screens.

Collective team motivation and a bit of healthy competition in the form of a January fitness challenge has got the team moving again. Across both regions, colleagues were challenged to walk or run 5000 steps or cycle 20km a day and to try and get outside in the fresh air if local lockdown laws allowed.

All results were then tracked via an internal leader board, and a Slack channel was created to share photos, results, and offer one another encouragement. The photos added some colour, introduced many of the teams' dogs, and reminded us that while some of the teams are having a chilly winter, others are enjoying the warmth of summer. While the challenge is still going on, the group has already amassed an amazing 6.5 million steps!

With the success of the January fitness challenge, the competition has been rolled out globally, with the new task to keep it going. All challenge winners were recognized and honored at our Sales and Marketing Kickoff. Doing so creates healthy competition, and amps up the fitness challenges.
