Empowering Rural Women in India to Empower India!
Madhvi hails from a small village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, been single handedly raised by her mother after her father passed away. Having excelled in her academics she was looking for a job to support her family needs, however, it was not possible for her to leave her responsibilities behind and travel to an unknown land for livelihood. This is not just the story of one Madhvi, but over 180 million rural Indian women living below the universal poverty line, living on less than a dollar.
With only 13.4% of Indian working women having a regular salaried job, they are often pushed from the organised to the unorganised sector and oscillate between skilled and unskilled work. Studies suggest that if India increased its female labor force participation by 10 percent (68 million more women) by 2025, it could increase its GDP growth to 16 percent. It is estimated that 217 million women are missing from the workforce. To address the same, Ministry of Women and Child Development under the initiative of Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP) aims to provide skills that give employability to women and to provide competencies that enable them to ensure sustainable employment and income generation for marginalised and asset-less rural and urban poor women across sectors and across the country..
Vision India’s initiative to empower our Rural women by making them Employable and exude them with positive self-esteem has enabled close to 500 women so far by offering them captive placements closer to their roots and likewise opportunities with other Corporates. With the skills provided, Vision India has offered them opportunity in BPO, Recruitment, HR, Operations, Learning & Development, Business Analytics, Mobilization and Employability. The quality of work, commitment and passion of the rural populace is found to be much better than their urban counterparts.
Madhvi, is gainfully employed today and is actively contributing to Skill India mission and inspiring many others to get skilled for a better life. She thanks Vision India for extending all possible support to transform her into a Corporate professional. “VISPL has an excellent learning environment where the trainees are nurtured and groomed to fit in the professional work culture. I am fortune to have been given this platform to follow my dreams” says Madhvi. This initiative has enabled women from resource poor background to earn a livelihood with dignity and raised the living standard of not only the students but also help a complete family shape the lives.
This is an extremely humbling and gratifying experience for team Vision India to extend training and job support to our Rural women and help them join the mainstream. We have created an eco-system of building relevant competency among them and make them industry ready. This was backed by letting the companies know about the industry ready talent pool’s availability which can be productive for them from day one. With low cost availability and no attrition, our this approach have received very encouraging response from many organization and we were able to place most of the students internally for our business processes and other reputed companies. By seeing the quality of our training batches and their contribution, most of the companies are returning back and want to recruit more from our trained candidates.
As a symbol of empowerment, self-dependence and pride… Vision India’s inspiration towards its mission of making Bharat employable are it’s women who face challenges with grit and determination with a never say die attitude and are continuously shouldering and contributing to the growth of India.
