Empowering Patients Through Human Design

Empowering Patients Through Human Design

This article is inspired by the insights and discussions presented in Episode 61 of The Born to Heal Podcast by Dr. Katie Deming, The Conscious Oncologist

I was thrilled to host Emma Dunwoody, a human design expert, on the Born to Heal podcast. Our conversation opened my eyes to the powerful role human design can play in health decisions and personal growth.

"I consider myself incredibly fortunate that I got sick at 23... If I'd been 53 or 63, I probably would have said, well, I'm getting older. This is what happens."

- Emma Dunwoody (on her journey of finding human design)

What is Human Design?

Emma explained that human design is like a personal blueprint. It's a fascinating system that combines Western astrology, Chinese I Ching, Kabbalah tree of life, and the Hindu chakra system. Unlike personality tests we're familiar with, human design doesn't rely on self-reporting. Instead, it uses your birth data to create a unique energetic profile.

As Emma shared her journey from traditional behavioral coaching to human design, I couldn't help but draw parallels to my own path from conventional to integrative medicine.

Trusting Your Inner Authority

"I think unfortunately we've been disconnected from the incredible wisdom that lies within our body and our body knows what it needs to heal." - Emma Dunwoody

One of the most powerful concepts Emma introduced was the idea of inner authority. In my practice, I often see patients struggling to trust their instincts, especially when faced with serious diagnoses like cancer. Emma's explanation of different types of authority - emotional, sacral, splenic, and others - provided a framework for understanding these internal cues.

I was particularly struck by how this aligns with my goal of empowering patients to become the authority of their own health.?

Practical Applications in Health Decisions

Emma's advice on experimenting with human design in daily life resonated with me. For instance, she suggested that someone with sacral authority might make decisions based on an immediate gut response. This approach could be incredibly valuable for patients making treatment decisions.

In my practice, I've started introducing these concepts to help clients navigate complex health choices. It's been amazing to see how understanding their human design helps them feel more confident in their decisions.

The Power of Self-Trust

"What I'm always trying to do is bring people back to themselves. You need to trust yourself and listen because this whole illness is a symptom that your body is talking to you about." - Dr. Katie Deming

Perhaps the most profound takeaway from my conversation with Emma was the importance of self-trust. As a doctor, I've seen how fear and uncertainty can paralyze patients. Human design offers a tool for reconnecting with our inner wisdom.

Emma's approach of gradual experimentation aligns perfectly with my philosophy. I encourage my clients to start small, making incremental decisions and reflecting on the outcomes. This process builds confidence in their ability to make choices aligned with their true selves.

A New Perspective on Healing

Hosting Emma on the Born to Heal podcast reinforced my belief in the power of integrative approaches to health. Human Design offers another lens through which we can understand our unique needs and decision-making processes.

As I continue to explore this fascinating field, I'm excited to incorporate these insights into my practice. Whether you're facing a health challenge or simply seeking to live more authentically, I encourage you to explore your human design. You might be surprised by the wisdom you uncover within yourself.

By understanding your unique design, you're one step closer to unlocking your body's innate healing potential.

Fascinating. I have been studying medical astrology which is the foundation of her praxis. Funny how the old is now the new. I have been using this natal analysis in combination with tarot to guide the patients discovery of the areas needed to be addressed.
