Empowering Nonprofits: Why Supporting Their Missions Is One of the Best Decisions We’ve Made

In the nonprofit world, every resource counts. Whether it's funding, time, or manpower, these organizations operate with one goal in mind: making the world a better place. But the challenge they face is not just in their mission; it’s also in running their operations efficiently so that every dollar and hour invested directly supports their cause. This is where our Workforce Management (WFM) software steps in.

The Intersection of Efficiency and Impact

Imagine a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting endangered wildlife. Their team is passionate, their cause is urgent, and their resources are limited. By streamlining their scheduling, project management, and communication through our WFM software, they can focus less on logistics and more on what truly matters—saving species from extinction. This isn’t just about making their day-to-day operations smoother; it’s about amplifying their impact.

Research shows that operational efficiency is a significant predictor of an organization's ability to achieve its goals. When nonprofits can reduce administrative burdens, they reallocate that energy towards their core mission, whether it’s feeding the hungry, educating underprivileged children, or conserving natural habitats. In essence, by helping them manage their workforce better, we’re indirectly contributing to the success of their mission.

The Decision to Support Nonprofits

At Soon , we’ve always believed that our Workforce Management (WFM) software should do more than just optimize operations—it should empower people to do what they’re passionate about. And there’s no better example of this than the work we do with nonprofits.

Moreover, we think there is no point in creating a powerful software that nobody uses. The more users we have the better. We don't want to limit this to only commercial corporations who have the budgets to afford it. Even if from a business perspective there is no financial incentive to do so, not directly anyway more on that later.

When we first decided to offer our software to nonprofits at a discounted rate, it felt like a natural extension of our mission. These organizations are dedicated to making the world a better place, but they often face challenges that for-profit businesses don’t—like limited budgets and resources. By providing them with the tools to streamline their operations, we knew we could help them focus more on what truly matters: their mission.

At the time, it was a simple decision. But as I’ve seen the impact it has had on a wide range of nonprofits, I’ve come to realize it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

Seeing the Impact Firsthand

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been witnessing the incredible work that nonprofits are doing with the help of our software. From community development programs to wildlife conservation efforts, the diversity of causes we support is nothing short of inspiring.

I remember one particular nonprofit focused on environmental conservation that reached out to us after implementing our WFM software. They told us how it helped them better coordinate their field teams and manage their projects, allowing them to protect more habitats and wildlife than ever before. Hearing stories like this reminds me why we do what we do.

Another nonprofit working in animal rescue shared how our software enabled them to respond more quickly and efficiently to emergencies, ultimately helping more animals in need. These stories are powerful reminders that operational efficiency isn’t just about saving time or cutting costs—it’s about enabling organizations to maximize their impact.

The Ripple Effect

What I’ve come to understand is that by helping nonprofits run their operations more smoothly, we’re indirectly supporting their missions. When they can spend less time on logistics and more time on their core activities, they can achieve more—whether that’s educating underprivileged children, providing clean water to communities, or preserving our natural environment.

This ripple effect is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s not just about the software we provide; it’s about being part of something bigger. Every time a nonprofit can stretch its resources further and help more people, we know that we’ve played a small but meaningful role in that success.

There’s also an unexpected benefit we’ve come to appreciate. As more nonprofits use our product, more people—especially volunteers—get hands-on experience with how it works. Many of these volunteers have other jobs where they naturally spread the word about Soon. This kind of organic growth reinforces the value of our software across different sectors, not just within nonprofits.

From that perspective, offering discounts to nonprofits makes perfect financial sense. It can be considered a marketing spend that eventually leads to gaining new customers.

It's not ALL good

So far this reads like it's all sunshine and rainbows but I'll be real with you and share some things that have not worked out while we tried to do this.

One unexpected issue arose when we listed our nonprofit program on our pricing page . We found that some people, who didn’t run nonprofit organizations, tried to take advantage of the discount. I understand the desire to save money—I’m frugal myself—but there needs to be a clear distinction between nonprofits and for-profit entities.

As the number of applications for our nonprofit program increased, we decided to partner with organizations like TechSoup to help pre-qualify applicants. The idea was to ensure that only legitimate nonprofits would benefit from our program. However, working with these distributors turned out to be more challenging than we anticipated. The process was bogged down by bureaucracy, and in some cases, communication simply fell apart (as in you get ghosted).

In the end, we decided to revert to working directly with nonprofits. It’s more straightforward, and it allows us to build stronger, more personal relationships with the organizations we support. While it’s been a learning experience, we’re confident that this approach better serves both us and the nonprofits we aim to empower.

Looking Forward

Reflecting on our journey, I’m convinced that supporting nonprofits was one of the smartest moves we’ve made. The impact we’ve had through these partnerships is something that goes beyond just business—it’s about contributing to a better world.

As we continue to grow and evolve at Soon, this commitment to supporting nonprofits will remain a core part of who we are. It’s a decision that aligns with our values and one that continues to inspire us every day.

There’s something truly special about knowing that our software is helping amazing people do amazing things. And as a founder, that’s one of the most fulfilling feelings there is.
