Empowering The Next Generation

In order to empower the next generation we have to teach them. Meaning we have to take time to show them how things are done. No matter your profession, you must be a teacher.?

It’s my opinion that we neglect this duty. And I call it a duty because someone taught you. Someone helped you to get where you are today. In my mind, not passing that knowledge on to the next generation is a disservice to all involved.

Now, some might argue that the next generation doesn’t want to learn. So let’s handle that for a minute. Because if you look, they do want to learn. It just might look different than the learning you went through.

Take for example YouTube. There are hundreds of thousands of people watching YouTube and learning to do all types of things from the videos people have posted. From how to fix their sink to how to use Revit, to personal development material. You name it, it’s on YouTube.

Traditional schools have failed the majority of our population. You can’t bankrupt out of the debt. You are legally forced to repay the loan. The only of it’s kind, mind you.?

Before I get too far off track, let me bring it back to teaching. You are a teacher. If you have kids, you should be their primary teacher. Not abdicating that responsibility to others. Letting other people raise your children.?

In our companies, it should be no different. The people that come to work for us are our kids in some way. Let me explain. It is our responsibility as the leaders and owners of firms to teach them how we do things. What is right and wrong in our business? The way we address clients. The way we communicate. The way that we produce our products.?

That is our responsibility. You don’t want your competitors teaching your employees to do something. Because that is not how you do it. You have a standard to set and a standard to hold.?

The more we take responsibility for our people, and our firm, and put more into our own hands to train the next generation, the better off we will be. No matter what the school system is doing, no matter what society is acting like, within our own walls, we have a lot of control. This goes for your home as well as your business.?

Take more control over your life. It’s not going to be easy, but it will be worth it.
