I recently had the incredible opportunity to interview Gilda Alvarez, an AI specialist and trailblazer for Latinas in the tech industry. To see the complete video go to: https://www.dhirubhai.net/events/7248854054590668802/about/?originTrackingId=3DpiZdyMSy%2BRFHlFaGJevQ%3D%3D
Her journey is both inspiring and eye-opening, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities for Latinas in this rapidly evolving field.
Breaking Stereotypes
Gilda shared a poignant experience that many Latinas in tech face: "Many times I've been in rooms where I walk in on a Saturday and things are chaotic, and they think I'm the cleaning lady. It's never an easy way." This stark reality highlights the persistent stereotypes and biases that Latinas must overcome in the tech world. However, Gilda's perspective is filled with hope as she notes, "Now I feel so much hope. They're not used to us in the tech world, but that's changing."

The Future of AI and Human Roles
Addressing concerns about AI replacing jobs, Gilda offers a reassuring perspective: "Anything that takes care of humans is protected, because artificial intelligence is not nurturing. It's intelligent. Intelligence is not the same as emotions and nurturing. So, your nurses, your doctors, they're going to be enhanced, but they are never going to be replaced."Gilda's insights remind us that while AI will transform many industries, uniquely human qualities will always be invaluable in the workforce. As we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of tech and AI, voices like Gilda's are crucial in inspiring and guiding the next generation of Latina tech leaders. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, continuous learning, and the importance of representation in shaping a more inclusive tech industry.
I felt a deep connection as we conversed and I feel that she is a great friend that wants to truly help others through her organzation, "Latinas in Tech." She is also providing great value through her book, "LATINA IN DATA: NAVIGATING THE TECH TERRAIN: A SURVIVAL GUIDE." Please be sure to read it as it is on Amazon.
