On July 20, 2024, Latina Professionals hosted an unforgettable and empowering event, Breaking Barriers: Mujeres Poderosas, at the stunning Rustique Winery in Salinas, CA. This gathering brought together remarkable Latina leaders for an afternoon of inspiration, connection, and celebration of their achievements and contributions to their communities.

The picturesque Rustique Winery served as the perfect backdrop for an event that highlighted not only the strength and resilience of Latina women but also the incredible impact they are making in both their local and global spheres. Surrounded by the beauty of the vineyard, attendees had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, build connections, and be inspired by women who have broken through barriers to lead and serve.

The event featured a powerhouse lineup of speakers, including Anna Velazquez, the Mayor of Soledad, Alejandra Bologna Zubikarai, the Ambassador at the Consulate General of Mexico in San José, and Ariana Rodriguez, the Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Greenfield. Each speaker shared their personal stories of overcoming obstacles, achieving success, and the importance of mentorship and community support in their journeys. Their words resonated deeply with the audience, empowering attendees to strive for excellence in their own careers and communities.

Anna Velazquez, the first Latina mayor of Soledad, spoke passionately about her experience in public service and the importance of representation. “Leadership is about being a voice for those who feel voiceless,” Velazquez stated, emphasizing the need for Latinas to step into leadership roles and shape policies that impact their communities.

Alejandra Bologna Zubikarai highlighted the critical role of diplomacy and collaboration in her work at the Mexican Consulate, sharing insights on how Latina leaders can leverage their cultural heritage as a strength in both national and international contexts. “Our roots are powerful; they shape our perspectives and give us the resilience to succeed in challenging environments,” she remarked.

Ariana Rodriguez, the Mayor Pro-Tem of Greenfield, focused on the importance of local government and grassroots efforts in creating lasting change. She encouraged attendees to engage with their communities and support one another through mentorship and advocacy.

Attendees were not only moved by the speakers’ stories but were also treated to an afternoon of networking, allowing them to exchange ideas and build connections with like-minded professionals. The atmosphere was one of mutual support and inspiration, with Latina leaders lifting each other up and celebrating their collective successes.

“This event is about more than just celebrating Latina leadership—it’s about empowering our community, breaking down barriers, and inspiring future generations of women to lead with courage and confidence. I’m proud to see how far we’ve come and excited for the future we’re building together.” — Isaura Arreguin, Chapter Council Founder & President, Latina Professionals Central Valley

As the event came to a close, it was clear that Breaking Barriers: Mujeres Poderosas was more than just a gathering; it was a call to action for Latina women to continue breaking down barriers, supporting one another, and stepping into leadership roles. The event left attendees feeling empowered, inspired, and ready to continue making an impact in their communities.

Latina Professionals continues to provide platforms for these crucial conversations and networking opportunities, ensuring that Latina women have the resources and support they need to thrive in their professional and personal lives. This event was a reminder that when Latinas come together, they are an unstoppable force for change.
