U.S. EV battery plant investments drive major economic growth

The U.S. is witnessing a significant surge in EV battery plant investments, with $154 billion invested and 166,000 jobs planned as the EV rollout accelerates. Leading investors include South Korean LG at $17.2 billion, Tesla at $15.7 billion, and GM at $15.5 billion. Despite the economic benefits, concerns over job security and labor practices persist, particularly among unionized workers. The United Auto Workers (UAW) emphasize the need for fair transitions in the evolving auto industry.?

EU renewable energy report: renewables lead in 2023 electricity production

According to latest report of Eurostat, in 2023, renewable energy comprised 44.7% of the EU's electricity production, overtaking fossil fuels at 32.5%. This shift signifies a notable rise from 2022 when renewables were slightly behind. The EU saw a 19.7% reduction in fossil fuel-based electricity and a 12.4% increase in renewable energy production. Nuclear energy contributed 22.8%, maintaining stability. This data underscores the EU's progress toward reducing fossil fuel dependence.?


Ford's EV sales increase in Q2, closing the gap with Tesla

In Q2 2024, Ford's EV sales increased by 61% year-over-year, reaching nearly 24,000 units and solidifying its position as the second-largest EV seller in the U.S. behind Tesla. The F-150 Lightning led with a 77% rise, while Mustang Mach-E sales grew by 46%. Ford's overall first-half EV sales rose by 72% compared to the previous year. This growth helps Ford maintain its lead over GM in the EV market.

Hyundai and LG open first EV battery cell plant in Indonesia

Hyundai, in collaboration with LG Energy Solution, has inaugurated its first EV battery cell plant in Indonesia. The $1.1 billion investment will produce enough cells to power over 150,000 Hyundai and Kia EVs annually, starting with the new Kona Electric. The plant aims to support Indonesia's goal of producing 600,000 EVs annually by 2026. This strategic move helps Hyundai compete with low-cost Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD.

Yotta Energy has launched an innovative "panel-level storage" package for commercial and industrial (C&I) solar installations in the U.S. The system features the SolarLEAF SL-1000 battery and microinverters, seamlessly integrated into rooftop racking to eliminate the need for separate battery rooms. World-record geothermal energy contract signed in Utah

Fervo Energy has signed a record 15-year contract with Southern California Edison to provide 320 MW of geothermal power, capable of powering 350,000 homes. The innovative plant, using horizontal drilling techniques adapted from the oil and gas industry, will start delivering 70 MW by 2026 and reach full capacity by 2028. This contract supports California's mandate for 1,000 MW of non-weather-dependent, zero-emission energy to enhance grid reliability. Geothermal energy's consistent output complements intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar.

Google calls on major suppliers to use 100% renewable energy by 2029

Google has introduced the Google Renewable Energy Addendum, urging its largest hardware suppliers to commit to 100% renewable energy by 2029 in response to rising emissions. This initiative follows a 13% increase in emissions in 2023, driven primarily by Scope 3 emissions. Despite achieving 100% renewable energy matching since 2017, Google's Scope 2 emissions increased by 37% due to higher data center energy use. Google continues to prioritize sustainability and carbon removal.

Europe’s largest solar farm launched for Shell and Microsoft

Europe's largest solar farm, the Witznitz Solar Farm in Germany, has begun operations, providing 605 MW of clean energy. Owned by HANSAINVEST Real Assets and developed by MoveOn Energy, this non-subsidized project spans over 500 hectares of a former coal mine. It is expected to supply enough electricity to power around 200,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 250,000 tons annually. A significant portion of its clean energy output, about 600 MW, has been secured through a long-term power purchase agreement with Shell Energy Europe. Additionally, the solar farm supports local biodiversity by incorporating agrivoltaic practices.?

2025 Audi A6 e-tron promises record-breaking EV range

The 2025 Audi A6 e-tron is set to deliver the brand's longest driving range for an electric vehicle, potentially surpassing the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE. Utilizing the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) like the new Q6 e-tron, it features an aerodynamic design that enhances efficiency. The A6 e-tron will offer both Avant wagon and Sportback body styles, excluding a sedan version. Expected to debut with 83kWh and 100kWh battery options, it will support 800-volt technology.?
