Empowering female leaders to achieve their potential

Empowering female leaders to achieve their potential

I wanted to use this week’s newsletter to share a bit more about myself.

Talking about myself can make me feel uncomfortable. It’s ironic because my work encourages my clients to be more open and authentic about who they are!

So today I am walking the talk as they say and I’m going to share a bit more about me, what I do and some of the results that clients achieve from working with me. It is not always a shiny new promotion or a huge pay rise (yes that does happen for some which is great!), but the work I do with my clients goes a lot deeper than that and lasts longer.

About me!

I’m Lisa and I’m a Leadership coach and mentor for women leaders. I set up my business just over 10 years ago and as with all businesses it’s been ever evolving and a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. My mission is to enable women leaders to thrive in corporate life and to achieve their potential. I really love what I do.

Before starting my own business I spent 20+ years working in HR for various organisations.

There came a point in that career when I wanted more responsibility and I couldn’t get it where I was. I wanted to be able to make more of an impact, to take on a more senior role. So I took a chance and applied for a promotion in a completely different industry.

I was terrified of being rejected, was I good enough or was I just kidding myself? But what was even more scary was the thought of how I would cope with a new role if I were successful. My daughter Emily was 8 at the time.

I was offered the role and making the move, from an organisation I’d been in for the last 10 years of my career, to a completely different industry was pretty daunting. I left what felt like a secure and familiar job (aka my comfort zone) to take a leap into a completely new company, a global one at that not just UK based.

When I started I was riddled with imposter syndrome for a long time and felt very vulnerable in a more senior role – did I really know what I was doing? How long before someone found out I wasn’t what I professed to be. And I was worried about how I would juggle everything at home and at work.

But you know what?

It worked out really well, I spent 8 very successful years in that organisation. It was pretty full on, the job changed and became a global leadership role with lots of travel. I enjoyed it, most of the time – like all jobs it had it’s lows as well as the highs. I had a great support network, with my family close by and bosses that understood the juggle of having a child and busy international role.

Looking back I wonder how I coped but having the motivation (if not the confidence!) to apply was the beginning to a very successful and happy period in my career. Maybe I’d have made that move up in my career sooner if I’d had some more encouragement and support, as I look back now I wonder what else I could have achieved in my corporate career?

Empowering women to achieve their potential

Now I support other women leaders to develop themselves, to go for that promotion and to empower themselves in this male dominated leadership world. I work with women on a 1:1 basis as well as run group programmes to help women leaders Achieve Their Potential.

I love what I do because I can help other women to stop the constant striving and start feeling proud of themselves. I believe that women should feel empowered, in control and proud of their lives. ??

“Lisa helped me articulate concerns that I've held for a long time and see things from a new perspective.”

Most of my clients come to me with overwhelm, self-doubt and they have a huge mental load.

At the beginning some of my clients feel guilty for working with me. They have been putting themselves at the bottom of the list for so long that it can feel uncomfortable to focus time - and money - on themselves.

My coaching sessions are a safe space to share your thoughts, insecurities and challenges. I listen to you – when was the last time that someone really listened to you I wonder?

I ask the right questions to help my clients achieve clarity. I empower them to make the difficult decisions and to put themselves back to the top of the list.

“She joined me on the journey of the complexities of changing identity and from Mum-to-be to new Mum to working Mum and I am very grateful for her.”

Often when my clients start working with me they wonder why they didn’t do it years before. We can all get stuck in a particular way of thinking, I help you see things from a different perspective, one that will help you get unstuck.

Clients frequently comment on how much they have achieved in such a short period of time because I am there supporting them. If you want it I keep you accountable for your goals. We work together to take the next steps forward. It’s hard to do that on your own sometimes.

“I knew something had to change so I reached out to Lisa with the modest (cue eye roll ) goal of 'bolstering my confidence'. But what I got was so much more! The journey proved to be far more empowering than I could have ever imagined, yielding an abundance of introspective insights and revelations that gave me a newfound sense of confidence”

Here’s a flavour of the topics that regularly come up in coaching sessions – increasing confidence, being an authentic leader, building credibility and gravitas, integrating work and family life, accelerating career progression, navigating the maternity transition and maximising strengths. All these topics are in support of women feeling more comfortable in their own skin and feeling truly empowered to thrive by being themselves – to achieve their potential.

I want more women to be leaders in this world. We can create a world where people are kind to each other and we collaborate and not fight.

I’d love to hear from you if any of my story resonates with you.

Maybe you have female leaders in your organisation that could benefit from my coaching services or programmes? Or maybe you are one of those female leaders?
