Empowering Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs) II: Advancing Ahead

Healthy Entrepreneurs Nigeria, a joint venture between Aha! and Healthy Entrepreneurs (H.E), aims to transform healthcare by providing access to quality and affordable healthcare products and services in rural areas. Following the successful launch of our first set of CHEs in May 2024, we began mobilization in June for the second batch of CHEs for onboarding and training in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

A total of 87 CHEs are currently active in their various clusters, making a significant impact. Our goal is to have 2500 CHEs making a positive impact in 10 Local Government Areas in Kaduna State.

Our vision is to make healthcare accessible to everyone by providing reliable health information and affordable health products in remote areas. By creating a network of Community Health Entrepreneurs, we aim to foster sustainable solutions to healthcare challenges while promoting economic empowerment and community development.

The program started with detailed planning and collaboration between healthcare professionals, community leaders, and stakeholders. The curriculum covered essential topics such as basic healthcare provision, health education, hygiene promotion, sexual health, family planning, and entrepreneurial skills, with a focus on business acumen to ensure the sustainability of their healthcare services.

Participants underwent three days of intensive training, led by our experienced healthcare team under the guidance of the Country Director, Healthy Entrepreneurs Nigeria, Mayowa Adeagbo. Through interactive workshops, practical demonstrations, and role-playing exercises, they learned about disease prevention, maternal and child health, first aid, and managing common ailments.Emphasis was placed on holistic healthcare, including medical knowledge, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication skills. Participants were encouraged to advocate for health literacy in their communities, promoting wellness and disease prevention.

The program also highlighted the importance of health skills, such as recognizing signs and symptoms, administering medications, and providing basic medical care. The program concluded with a graduation ceremony, where 69 newly trained CHEs emerged as catalysts for positive change. With their entrepreneurial spirit ignited, they have been equipped with the knowledge and expertise to conduct health screenings and organize health education campaigns, addressing immediate health needs and empowering community members to take charge of their well-being.

Looking Ahead, the end of the training and onboarding program marks the start of a new chapter towards healthier, more resilient communities. With ongoing commitment and support from all stakeholders, the Community Health Entrepreneurs in Kaura and Jema'a local government areas are set to drive sustainable change, paving the way for a brighter, healthier future for generations to come. #HealthyEntrepreneurs #HealthcareCloseToYou
