Empowering communities and creating better places

Town Team Movement is a non-profit organisation helping ‘town teams’ to organise, engage and empower their communities and create better places.
Town teams are a model that encourages businesses, residents & local governments to work collaboratively to improve a place or area, often a town centre or ‘main street’. They are:
- Independent
- Not politically-aligned
- A positive voice and influence in their community
Each team has different priorities and focuses, but all share these principles. There are currently 21 town teams in Perth and this number is growing quickly! Town Team Movement will support this grassroots movement to grow and flourish around Australia and New Zealand.
The Town Team Model
The Town Team Model is simple - a positive and proactive group of businesses, landowners and residents working cooperatively with their local government. Businesses and residents usually don't work together very well, and local governments often don't understand the complexities of the places they serve.
This model helps to break down the barriers and gets people working together to achieve a common vision.
We champion:
- Place leadership
- Active citizenship (we are citizens, not just passive consumers)
- Positive action based on a vision and action plan
- Stewardship
We are inspired by the idea that everyone can make a difference and that every action is important. Find out more about us at www.townteams.com.au.
