As we strive for progress and positive change, it's crucial to shed light on critical issues that demand our attention.

Today, I want to address the urgent matter of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Female Genital Mutilation:

• is a traditional practice
• involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia or other injury to female genital organs
• is performed for non-medical reasons
• often causes severe physical and psychological consequences

I know that many of us have heard of FGM, but for most this issue is not that close to home, so we tend not to focus on it too much.

Sadly, it is closer than we think.

Here are a few facts around this topic:

1. More than 200 million girls have experienced FGM
2. FGM cases span across at least 93 countries
3. Each year, more than 3 million girls are at risk to undergo FGM
4. It is prevalent in Africa
5. Studies show that there is a strong correlation between the number of cases and the lack of education in any specific area

Given all these facts, don't you think it is time for us to unite in putting an end to it?

Together with their partners at Men End FGM Foundation (MEF) (an established organization already fighting against FGM), their tireless efforts are shaping a future where every woman can live free from the threat of this harmful practice.
