The European Women’s Association (EWA) recently engaged in a series of impactful meetings and interviews that underscored our commitment to fostering collaboration and advancing the interests of women in business within the Dominican Republic.
Over a week, we connected with key figures in government, commerce, and entrepreneurship, laying the groundwork for future initiatives and partnerships.
Friday, October 4, 2024: A Day of Insight and Strategy
We kicked off our series with a pivotal meeting at the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Centre, where Angelina Biviana Riveiro Disla, the Executive Director, along with her team, including Mildred Santos (Deputy Technical Director), Carolina Pérez (Director of Market Intelligence), and Maritza Bello (Director of International Relations), shared invaluable insights into the country’s export strategies and investment opportunities.
Monday, October 7, 2024: Engaging with Leaders for Women's Empowerment
The day began with a significant meeting with Mayra Jiménez, the Minister of Women, and Lucy Santana, Director of International Affairs at PUCMM. The discussion centered around collaborative efforts to enhance women's economic empowerment and expand opportunities for female entrepreneurs in the Dominican Republic.
Following this, EWA met with Lucile Houellemont, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Santo Domingo, fostering a dialogue on potential partnerships that could bolster the local business landscape and provide enhanced resources for women in business.
The day concluded with an engaging interview with Danielis Fermín Martí from El Dinero, during which we discussed EWA's mission and future initiatives to empower women entrepreneurs.
Tuesday, October 8, 2024: Strengthening Alliances
EWA met with the President of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) to explore synergies between our organizations and discuss innovative approaches to support young female entrepreneurs. Later in the day, we engaged with José Nelton Gonzalez, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, focusing on policy initiatives that promote business growth and gender equality in the marketplace.

A significant highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jean Marco Pou, President of the EuroChamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic, and Samuel Sena, President of the Council for Economic and Social Development of Santo Domingo (CODESSD).
This MOU marks a commitment to work collaboratively on initiatives that support economic development and empower women entrepreneurs.
Wednesday, October 9, 2024: Building Relationships for Future Growth
The week wrapped up with crucial meetings, including one with José A. Quiroz, Managing Partner at Quiroz Advisors, to discuss potential advisory roles EWA can play in shaping business strategies. A subsequent interview with Mercado Magazine highlighted EWA’s achievements and aspirations in advancing women's roles in business.
Finally, we met with Carolina Mejía de Garrigó, the Mayor of the National District, where we discussed ongoing efforts to create a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs in Santo Domingo.
