Empowering African Renaissance: Key Highlights of the Global Peace Leadership Conference in Nairobi

Kenya recently hosted the Global Peace Leadership Conference (GPLC 2024), championing an African renaissance in the political, social and economic affairs of the continent.

Through the established voices of Nigeria's former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Kenya's celebrated industrialist Dr. Manu Chandaria among others, the GPLC 2024, concluded by endorsing young Africans to rise up to the challenge of accountable leadership to drive the much needed social, political and economic change necessary in addressing Africa's many challenges.

The conference held from June 25th to 28th, 2024 coincided with protests by Kenya's youth (Gen-Z) against the country's proposed finance bill 2024, a truly epochal moment that has since galvanized not only Kenyans but also the entire continent in their desire to see a change in how Africa governs its political, social and development affairs.

Drawing on Africa’s unique heritage, spirituality, and traditional values, the conference sought to re-imagine a continent where cooperation triumphs over conflict, where corruption yields to ethical leadership, and where peace flourishes while fostering a sense of pride and self-worth among Africans.

Kenya’s selection as the venue for the Global Peace Leadership Conference (GPLC) Africa 2024 is a testament to its pivotal role in fostering dialogue and action on global challenges. The country has been at the forefront of addressing critical issues in the continent such as peace and security, climate change, transforming education, and advocating for equitable representation in international affairs.

Winnie Gor Communications Africa, (WGCA) had the privilege of supporting communication for the conference that hosted over 500 delegates from 25 African countries among others. WGCA was tasked with developing and executing the communication strategy for the conference which included - Media Relations, Content Development, Creative design, Social media & Influencer management as well as related event support.

GPLC 2024 engaged policy-makers, educators, faith leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to identify and share measures toward sustainable peace-building and development efforts while evaluating and advancing peace and development frameworks through community-oriented actions.

At the heart of the conference lay a platform for empowering emerging and established African leaders who shared their unique experiences, best practices, and innovative solutions. From education to entrepreneurship, the leaders addressed pressing challenges towards contribution to Africa’s progress.
