WHO WE ARE

A global network of individuals who believe that everyone has some unique skill. We just PowerUP! We consist of a group of passionate individuals (of all genders) who are positive, with make-it-happen and lead-by-example attitudes. A peer-to-peer network to support and PowerUP each other! Do I need to be an expert to be a part of this group? NO. We just need to be good enough. Good enough to own up to our limitations, be willing to respond to others, and be social and acceptable.

LEADER'S SPEAK: AI and Sustainability Grace Johnson - Africa Lead, Women PowerUP Network

Imagine this: AI can predict how much energy we will need based on the weather, like a super-smart thermostat for the entire planet! This could mean less reliance on fossil fuels and a breath of fresh air for our environment. That's the exciting potential of AI for sustainability. At Women PowerUp Network we are leading the charge, bringing diverse ideas and highlighting the AI discourse.

Women PowerUp Network has facilitated the collaboration of diverse women heroes from different continents to publish an article on AI and sustainability. The article highlights the potential of AI as a game-changer in the sustainability discourse.

AI can help us use energy smarter, create eco-friendly materials, and even keep an eye on our environment. For instance, AI can predict energy needs based on weather forecasts. This helps us adjust power production, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and pollution. In farming, AI can track soil health and predict crop needs. Farmers can then use water and fertilizer more precisely, saving resources and money.

The Women PowerUp Network highlights how important it is to have a diverse team tackling these challenges. When people with different backgrounds work together, they come up with more creative solutions!

AI has even more tricks up its sleeve. Imagine power grids that automatically adjust energy use based on real-time needs, or factories that run with minimal waste. AI can also help us develop sustainable materials like bioplastics and find ways to reuse and recycle more.

Think of AI as a powerful tool to protect our planet. By analyzing data from satellites and drones, AI can track things like deforestation and pollution, even predicting natural disasters. This real-time information can help us take action before it's too late. This is what our planet urgently needs.

By working together, using AI for good, and encouraging collaboration like what we have embraced at Women PowerUp Network, we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet. Let's make that future a reality!

SPECIAL FEATURE: Be Hopeful, Be Strong, Be Brave, Be Curious by Ruth Pearce

Coaching is often seen as a mysterious realm, filled with magic and miracles. Yet, the truth is that coaching is both an art and a science, often misunderstood and underestimated. As coaches, we don't just sit back and ask occasional questions; there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating a transformative coaching experience.

We keep track of time, not just to abruptly end sessions but to ensure progress and provide closure smoothly. We listen for recurring themes, observe shifts in energy, and maintain a safe space for emotional expression. Confidentiality and trust are paramount, as we respect your journey and goals.

Our role extends beyond sessions; we stay connected with your story, tailor our approach to your uniqueness, and balance curiosity with expanding awareness. We challenge, encourage, and celebrate your wins, always focusing on your perspective while offering alternative viewpoints.

Writing this book isn't just about explaining coaching to potential clients; it's also a tribute to the invaluable lessons learned from coaching experiences. My clients have been my teachers, guiding me on my journey of growth and transformation. I invite you to explore coaching, not just for your benefit but for the mutual growth and learning that coaching offers both clients and coaches alike.

I extend my gratitude to all my clients who have contributed to shaping this book and enriching my coaching journey.

This book is structured into three sections. The first section (Chapters 1–3) focuses on identifying meaning and purpose, understanding obstacles, and strategies to overcome them. The second section (Chapters 4–8) delves into coaching challenges, progress measurement, and creating a meaningful life. The third section (Chapter 9 and Conclusion) integrates coaching, meaning, and action, guiding readers through a transformative journey. The appendices offer tools like core competencies, case study profiles, coach selection questions, and coaching moment identification. Through case studies and thematic chapters, readers explore hope, strength, bravery, curiosity, and intention as pathways to personal growth and coaching effectiveness.--Ruth Pearce

With regards to Ms. Pearce's blurb: As an LCSW for 35+ years and a doctorate of counseling...I disagree with her reality and the slight "digs" at psychotherapy in her blurb. While your certification as a "coach" takes 6 months... I studied in my field for a BS (4 years), an MSW (2 years) and a PhD (4 years). In all, 10 years PLUS I successfully met licensure requirements by having supervision for 3 years or 3000 hours and passing a national exam. So, while you BELIEVE that we just sit back and insert ourselves "every once in a while" it is really a science; a behavioral science that is based in theory and best practices identified through peer reviewed empirical data. AND while you assert yourself as "under estimated" in reality, I believe you are OVER estimating your abilities and knowledge; as evidenced by regulatory bodies & insurance companies. Coaches cannot diagnose, they are not reimbursed by insurance companies, and truly, there is really not any uniformity in training. This is NOT to say that there is no place for coaching as everyone is valuable in our field particularly in today's international climate; however please do not assert that coaching is more than any other profession. It is very different.
