What exactly is ‘employer branding’? Why is it important? Should you invest in it?

In our new staffing guide, we briefly glossed over the term ‘employer branding’, identifying it as one of the 5 challenges of hiring for IT positions.

Yet, despite its importance, many have never invested the proper time and effort in building their own brand—in fact, many have never even heard of it!

What exactly is ‘employer branding’?

As a company, you of course have a reputation, known as your brand. It showcases your mission as a company, your products, services, history, and more.

But your company also has a secondary brand: how you’re viewed as an employer. This is everything from the salary, benefits packages, weekly happy hours, workplace culture, employee treatment, and any other features of the workplace.


Why is it important?

In such a competitive job market, maintaining a positive employer brand is critical to hiring and retaining the best (and the right) employees.

A poll from the CR Magazine and Cielo Talent showed that almost 50% of workers said they wouldn’t work for a company with a bad reputation, even with a big increase in compensation.

This means that companies who don’t invest in their employer brand are cutting themselves off from a large portion of the talent pool.


So, should you invest in an employer brand?

Absolutely and here’s why…
