IT Employee's Confusions

IT Employee's Confusions

Based on my experience and interaction with my colleagues, I would like to mention my views:

  1. People in any field fear of saturation. You reach a level where there is no growth in knowledge as well as salary. The same goes with IT jobs. If you don't keep enhancing your skills, you are surely going to feel unaccomplished in life
  2. Fear of new technologies taking up your jobs. I would not exactly say that the automation will take away the job of a tester because ultimately a human brain will be needed to feed in test cases and create smarter tests. It will intact make jobs better. However, due to human tendency, people fear that they might fail in adapting
  3. Fear of losing jobs- This is not the scenario in all the companies but yes this fear comes out of inability to adapt to the organization as fast as others. For instance, I get into an organization which has its own tech stack and I see my colleagues rapidly working on that tech stack and I spend 6–8 months and still hardly match up with their pace. This also creates a fear

Now a few generic fears:

  1. Deadline
  2. Rating
  3. Pink slips
  4. Bad tasks being assigned
  5. Frequent switch in technologies(happened to friends in service companies)
  6. Fear of never reaching stability
  7. Fear of manager's scolding
  8. Fear of bugs in code
  9. Fear of missing out a critical test case

The list would go on endlessly…But we'll it's life.

Time we spend dreaming about doing something meaningful in our life, but never taking action.

  1. The big dream to go traveling, but never booking a ticket.
  2. The dream to start a business, but never building up the courage to start.
  3. The dream to have a great body, but never being motivated to go workout.
  4. The dream to succeed in college, but not having the willpower to study.
  5. The dream to be wealthy, but not having the discipline to build it.
  6. The dream to get married, but never being brave enough to commit.
  7. The dream to have a loving family, but never taking time off work.
  8. The dream to help other people, but never letting go of your self-interest.
  9. The dream to become a leader, but never having the self-belief to try.

Everything can always be done tomorrow, until it can’t.

Life feels like we have no deadline, but in truth, it’s the biggest of them all.

Start working towards your dreams, because those boxes are running out.

Different types of Fears For IT people :

  • Adapting to change
  • Following process of organization
  • internal management
  • salary

For a Fresher I would say learning new technologies to enhance their skills should be the priority, no matter how bad/outdated is the technology you’re currently working on,one should always strive to upgrade his skills, this may ultimately open different career paths for your future. But as an experienced one may find it difficult to adapt to change in technology(eg:certain product being migrated to a latest technology) because he's been working on the same technology throughout his career and has ceased to learn new things, this may well define fear of adapting to change.Automation can be considered another thing which may fear people

as if their job gets automated they may fear being laid off.

Another fear is following the process of the organization, Every organization has a particular process defined ,it is mandatory for an employee that he is aware of the process , being ignorant and unaware about the process may lead you into facing serious issues .

Politics is another major fear that keep many people behind in the race , "Where there's technology, there's change, and where there's change, there will be people who perceive themselves a winners or losers. That's where politics begin."

You just cant say "Leave me out of the politics, I'm here for technology" and escape out of it, the more you ignore the more you would be left behind others.

Salary concern is the fear for every employee as this follows the above point "politics" or your relation to seniors(making yourself known) or how you are marketing yourself (ultimately is considered in your appraisals) no matter how much you work hard or how good you're at coding, so handling the situation in a way its happening in your organization and molding yourself accordingly is the only key for survival

Jobs in IT industry is very dynamic and unsecured. No one can guarantee that you u will be secure in any company.

Anyone who is working in IT industry should have to update in his field, should be know all the new technology which can affect his routine work.

In the initial phase, when you are fresher and joined this industry, you might be very excited to adapt new technology, new skills but eventually When the person grows up, then they didn't have enough time to spent in learning new things. So learning curve is getting down. So at the end he has to suffer that new technologies are now in demand and if u want to survive in this industry you have to learn it.

Most fear work, experience nervousness and anxiety by either fixating on a past you cannot change or looking to a future you cannot predict.

If the past is haunting you, let it go.

If the future intimidates you, learn more. Why? Are you not prepared to do your job? Are you given tasks but no direction at work? Do you hate actually doing what it is you are supposed to do? Learn more every day; make yourself more prepared even if that means studying a lot, ask for clarity on the tasks given but do so in an open-ended solution-oriented fashion with your boss(s) and if you hate what you do when you are doing it… then ultimately you will need to find something else to do with your life.

All the best !!!
