Employees Coaching Everyday

Employees Coaching Everyday

What if employees learned how to coach? What if employees learned how to be coached? What if employees learned how to give feedback thoughtfully and professionally? What if employees learned how to receive feedback thoughtfully and professionally? Would this help improve your workplace? Of course, it would.

We put so much onus on leaders to coach and develop talent, yet we need to provide a responsibility and accountability for those people who are the receivers of such talent development. It is incumbent upon every leader to develop talent, yet it is also the responsibility of talent to be open to suggestions and opportunities to improve and raise their gain. After years of education through high school and potentially college it is amazing the workplace inherits employees who have never been taught some fundamental things such as the following:

  • how to be a great teammate
  • the value of feedback even when disagreeing with the feedback
  • how to use feedback strategically
  • how to provide feedback to peers safely
  • how to uphold mentality of positivity every day during the workplace

It it is easy to make a list, but we must understand who our audience is. employees are typically those people who entered the workplace without any of the aforementioned attributes or training; Therefore, there is an opportunity for organizations to develop talent as well as develop talent development creators from the ground up. Think about helping your organization build a positive workplace culture not just through leadership development yet through those who need to be led and coached. When people learn how to coach, they become greater receivers of coaching. When people learn how to provide positive feedback, they become receivers of positive feedback. A major portion of any organization are going to be employees or individual contributors and therein lies an incredible opportunity.

Amazing thoughts, Tim Hagen. I like to think of this as *inviting* participation, of making people aware how *they* can lead their own development, and how welcome their thoughts will be from their leaders. Simple scripts can help so much! "Hey boss, I'd like to discuss some recent mistakes and lessons-learned, and it would really help to hear some of your OWN mistakes in the process; would that be possible?"

Thank you for the invite.

Thank you Tim for the invitation! I was just talking to someone yesterday about the MORE important “soft skills” that HR departments should offer as employee advisors.
