Meet Wendy Toth, Co-Founder and VP of Content of GreatPetCare?!

GreatPetCare? is made up of many amazing team members, and we want to introduce Wendy Toth!

What does your job entail?

"As a publisher, I specialize in developing content strategies for media sites that result in the growth of audience size,?brand awareness, engagement, and finally, revenue. My team is made up of talented writers, editors, and creatives who make that happen. I always say my goal is to deliver health and lifestyle content that's SEO-optimized, packed with actionable information, and above all, a good read."

When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in this field?

"I took a few creative nonfiction writing classes during my junior year at Pitt and loved them. I knew I made the right career field decision when I told my guidance counselor I wanted to build up enough credits to minor in writing and go on to a career in journalism. He tried to dissuade me. He talked quite a bit about how journalism is a very challenging way to make a living. All that did was make me want to go after it more. That’s how I knew I was on the right track."

Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

"Early in my career, I took a writing course all about how to get published in major outlets. It was taught by the great author Susan Shapiro and she called it Instant Gratification Takes Too Long. Not only did I want to be just like Susan, but I also wanted to be just like every guest editor she brought into the class, many of whom were her previous students. I made it my mission to move up in the editing and publishing world to return to Susan’s class as a guest panelist and pay it forward. And I did! These days Susan teaches her courses online as well, and she and her students, both current and former, continue to raise the bar on putting out real, impactful writing. Something that is becoming increasingly important."

What do you like most about GreatPetCare??

"I’m one of the co-founders of GreatPetCare? so… everything! When we started GreatPetCare? it was with the intention of cutting through the clutter of what’s out there for pet parents to find online when they need clear answers about their pets’ health. We research what they are looking for and we hand-pick experts who can give them those solutions. Most importantly we are committed to having our medical content reviewed by veterinary experts at least once a year to make sure it stays accurate, even as animal health research evolves."

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

"Number one is spending a ton of time with my family. We’re outside together as much as we can be, playing sports, walking and running, swimming, you name it. No matter how crazy the work gets, they come first. Our industry moves lightning fast and this is not always the easy or popular way to be, but it is the most important. I’ve learned over years of building up healthy boundaries that a well-balanced me makes a much better coworker, manager, and employee anyway! I also run a boutique career coaching site at powersuiting.com where I help other creatives find that same balance."

Do you follow any sports teams?

"Premier League Soccer is on in my house nonstop. We’re an Arsenal family."

What are some books you’ve read recently?

"From Strength to Strength by Arthur Brooks."
