Employee Spotlight - Tomás Rosón

1.?Can you tell us about your career journey and how you ended up in your current role at Brainomix?

I’ve always had a strong interest in technology and understanding how things work, which led me to study Industrial Engineering at university. After completing my degree, I took on a technical role at Brainlab, a German medical technology company, where my responsibilities included installing, maintaining, and repairing neurosurgical navigation equipment. During this time, I also received training in brain anatomy and medical imaging, which was crucial since I was responsible for training medical professionals on how to use the equipment.

In 2017, I was approached by Brainomix, which was then a small startup with only a dozen employees. They had developed Brainomix 360, an innovative AI software for stroke diagnosis, and the challenge of working with such cutting-edge technology in a new market really appealed to me. So, I made the decision to join them, and it has been a highly rewarding experience.

2.?What does a typical day look like for you?

My role requires a great deal of versatility, similar to a Swiss Army knife. Officially, I handle the clinical and technical aspects of software installations in specific territories, but working in a startup environment means that I also often take on additional tasks to support the company’s growth.

I’m based in Spain, but I’ve had the opportunity to expand my work into more regions and time zones over time. My work varies greatly from day to day—one day might involve installations, training, or equipment maintenance, while the next could be focused on administrative tasks crucial for our operations in a particular country. I also spend a significant amount of time traveling to meet with clients, both to promote our software and to support existing users. In short, my day-to-day activities are quite diverse, and flexibility is essential.

3. How do you build and maintain strong relationships with our customers from a technical standpoint?

Building strong relationships with customers is fundamentally about trust. It’s important to not only ensure that our services function reliably, but also to be there for the customer when issues arise. Transparency and confidence are key: customers need to know that they can rely on you to resolve problems quickly and honestly.

The relationship typically begins during the implementation phase. I make it a priority to ensure everything is clear from the outset, but I also recognize that questions and issues may emerge over time. That’s why I emphasize continuous support from day one. Being accessible and responsive is crucial—there’s no room for excuses; it’s about clearly communicating what needs to be addressed.

Proactivity is also important. If I can identify and resolve potential issues before the customer even notices them, it helps build their confidence and trust in our service.

4.?Can you share a memorable experience or project you’ve worked on at Brainomix?

One particularly memorable project was in Andalusia, southern Spain, where we were involved in enhancing stroke treatment in remote areas. Initially, we often encountered scepticism when presenting our software, with some people questioning its value or whether it might replace jobs. However, it soon became clear that our technology could make a significant impact, particularly for people without access to major hospitals.

During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had the opportunity to contribute to an existing project aimed at improving treatment in these remote regions. We offered our solution to enhance diagnosis and communication across more than 30 centres in Andalusia’s tele-stroke network. The implementation was complex but extremely rewarding, knowing that our work was positively affecting thousands of patients each year.

5.?What future developments or projects are you most excited about?

I’m particularly excited about some ambitious projects we’ve recently initiated in Latin America. These projects have the potential to significantly advance stroke care in the region, helping these areas improve their protocols quickly by leveraging lessons learned in previous projects.

Additionally, the development of new algorithms targeting other medical conditions (interstitial lung disease) is also very promising. I’m eager to see how these new tools can further assist healthcare systems in treating their patients more efficiently.

6.?What hobbies/activities do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I’m also really into sports—especially those that are challenging and require technical skills. I don’t claim to excel at any of them, but I love playing tennis, swimming, and skiing. The more difficult and technical the sport, the more I enjoy it!
