Employee Spotlight: Steven Waters, Commissioning Manager, Telemetry

For many professionals, a career path is a linear progression of roles and responsibilities. However, for Steven Waters, Commissioning Manager of Telemetry, the journey has been anything but conventional. From directing large teams in the contact center world to spearheading customer success and operational excellence, Steven has seamlessly transitioned into a pivotal role at Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, where he is making waves in emerging technology.?

After spending over 16 years with a major e-commerce retailer, Steven decided to pivot his career. “I spent over a decade leading teams in a contact center, but I wanted to explore new challenges,” Steven reflects. “My move to B2B was driven by a passion for serving customers and solving problems, which naturally led me to a management role in customer success and eventually to directing operations.”?

Armed with a degree in Industrial Distribution and Logistics, Steven found a perfect fit in HYMH’s Emerging Technology team. “My background in technology and logistics aligns perfectly with what we do here,” Steven says. “I’m excited to serve our customers, our employees, and provide innovative solutions.”?

As the Commissioning Manager, Steven oversees a diverse team that includes project managers, the applications team, and field engineers. “A typical day involves a lot of coordination,” Steven explains. “We start with a daily standup, followed by customer calls and internal meetings. I also spend time proactively auditing projects to ensure quality and effective workload distribution.”?

One of the major challenges in this role is working with ever-changing technology. “Constant communication with customers, dealers, and other teams is crucial,” Steven says.

Collaboration is key in Steven’s role, involving face-to-face meetings, virtual calls, and email communications with various teams. “I value my team’s willingness to help one another and our customers,” Steven says. “The culture here is fantastic—it’s a collaborative environment where everyone is eager to support each other.”?

As Steven looks to the future, he has ambitious goals. “I want to set my team up to be a well-oiled machine and continue growing my career at HYMH,” he says. “There’s a huge opportunity to expand globally as we evolve our telemetry and emerging technology.”?
