Employee Spotlight on Software Engineer: Dr. Mikhail Buryakov
QuantPi is a deep-tech company in the AI Trust space, but even deep-tech is nothing without the people behind it. So this series is dedicated to shining a spotlight on our Pioneers!
We asked them some questions and they answered to give you a glimpse into different roles and personalities within our team. This week, Dr. Mikhail Buryakov , Software Engineer at QuantPi!
Mikhail, thanks for taking a short moment with us, we’ll dive right in!
What inspired you to pursue a career with QuantPi?
M: I remember the moment my family and I agreed to make drastic changes and I started a long process of job searching. During that time, it was actually our co-founder and CTO, Artur, who somehow found me and we talked about QuantPi. I was impressed by the founders’ vibes, how they were (and still are) fully immersed in what we do together. I knew nothing about this side of AI and couldn’t imagine how large this field is (especially with further evolving GPTs and such), but I was intrigued. Serendipitously, a friend of mine also did his postdoc at the university in Saarbrücken, which is where QuantPi’s headquarters is, and he only ever had good things to say about the place. I visited and sort of fell in love with the city. The rest is history.
It’s funny how sometimes things just line up, how they should!?
What is your favorite thing about working at QuantPi?
M: There are many! I love the team's overall friendly, open and warm atmosphere. Plus, the freedom and trust to work from home whenever I need to. Also, the communication between all employees is organised exceptionally well. I’ve never worked in such a diverse team before with people working from many different remote locations – and I should say, I am glad to see how we manage it!
We have quite a few parents, yourself included at QuantPi, so that flexibility, understanding and trust is indeed great!

What skills or abilities do you think are essential for success in your role?
M: Well, I think that for any software development-related work a strong STEM education is a must-have. But this is only the basis for hard-skills and it is even more important to have the skill to flexibly and swiftly learn new technologies, to know how to in terms of technical systems integrate something completely new into existing ones. Also, even in a small team like ours, it is crucial to think about organizational aspects of the development process, to communicate with other members of the team in a way where everyone clearly understands what and how to do.
Absolutely, the ability to learn new technologies swiftly is such a huge advantage in any role!
Last question, if you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
M: laughs To be honest, I'm looking forward to the moment when I'll finally have a cozy, relaxed one-on-one evening and dinner with my wife. The last time we did that was a looong time ago, and due to the lack of someone nearby who can watch the kids, it is a non-trivial challenge. But I hope my older daughter will soon be ready to become a “nanny” for a couple of hours.
Something tells me that now that you have voiced this, there may be quite a few QuantPi babysitters offering assistance in the near future.?
Thank you for taking the time, Mikhail, I speak for QuantPi when I say, it’s such a delight to have you on the team!
