Employee Spotlight - Sima Noghanian

CommScope’s Sima Noghanian, principal antenna design engineer, was recently elected as Fellow by the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES), an honorary grade bestowed by the Board of Directors upon an individual member with exceptional achievements in applied computational electromagnetics, ACES publications and their dedicated service to ACES.

Sima joined CommScope in August 2021 and has been a part of the hardware group for RUCKUS Wireless Networks. Her work covers a variety of tasks that include conducting research on antenna technologies, designing, simulating, and?developing new antenna prototypes, testing antenna prototypes, and integrating antennas into Ruckus WiFi access points which are used by businesses and homes all over the world.

Sima’s favorite aspect of her job is being able to play a role in creating a product that enriches people's lives and simplifies communication. Being a part of a team that is dedicated to developing a high-quality product in the area of networking and daily communication gives her a tremendous feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.

Sima feels fortunate to have the support of her employer, particularly her supervisor, Anand Krishnamachari, in her efforts to advance her personal and professional growth by attending conferences, workshops and training programs. She also gained the opportunity to contribute to patents and write papers for journals and conferences and is grateful for the chance to learn from skilled and experienced colleagues on a daily basis.

As an antenna design professional, Sima finds this field to be incredibly rewarding and inspiring. “The way that electromagnetic fields interact with the environment, and the diverse ways in which we can harness them are truly fascinating. Antennas serve as crucial tools in the transmission of data, power and information, making them indispensable in various domains, including communication devices, navigation systems and biomedical diagnosis and treatment.”

To someone considering entering this field, her advice is to cultivate a sense of curiosity and playfulness. She believes it is essential to remain updated on the latest technical knowledge and never stop learning. “This field is constantly evolving, and there are always exciting innovations to discover. I encourage aspiring antenna engineers to stay informed about the latest breakthroughs and contemplate how they can implement them in practical ways that benefit society as a whole”.?

In her free time, Sima enjoys learning new things, volunteering, and spending time with her family. She also continuously works towards expanding her knowledge by spending a lot of her free time reading journal papers and articles related to her field as well as doing her own research and writing conference and journal papers.

Speaking about her passion for volunteering, Sima is a member of several professional associations like the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in addition to ACES, and often volunteers her time as an associate editor, reviewer, conference technical committee member and more. She also enjoys mentoring young professionals and students.?
