Employee Spotlight: Shoaib Joya - Civil Engineer

Shoaib Joya joined 2IM Group as a Civil Engineer in January 2022. He has become significantly involved in Chicago Department of Aviation’s Terminal Area Plan (TAP) project which involves the construction of new concourses and the associated taxiways and aprons, as well as?modification to existing concourses. ?2IM Group’s primary role is the design of all drainage elements of this multi-phase, multi-year O’Hare 21 program.?The project will result in significant additional gate capacity, positioning the airport to serve growing passenger needs well into the future.?The crown jewel of the re-development will be the O’Hare Global Terminal, with its 4 satellite concourses.?An underground tunnel system will connect all concourses, conveying passengers, baggage and utilities. ?

While still in its infancy, Shoaib’s initial contributions include mapping of existing storm sewers that have been constructed since the ‘60s and designing large junction chambers (some as large as 30 ft across and 40 ft deep) as part of the proposed main trunk storm sewer systems that will act as the main arteries for drainage that will serve the whole TAP area.?

Another interesting design task for Shoaib has been the analyses and layout of surface drainage features (trench drains) that will help isolate and reclaim aircraft deicing fluids from other storm runoff in apron areas.

Shoaib’s biggest accomplishment while working at 2IM Group is being a member of a Professional Engineer’s team on the Chicago O'Hare TAP project as a Civil Engineer. He is proud to have found a career at a great company with great, new colleagues!
