Meet Carly Stone, a Communications Associate at SU-CSCS/EFC!
Tell us about your role at CSCS. What projects do you work on?
I’m involved in our overall communications and strategy, primarily as it revolves around outreach and branding, with a focus on our Recycle Right New York (RRNY) campaign. My job is to help find how we can creatively and effectively share our messages in a way that reflects and strengthens our purpose.
What inspired you to want to work in the environmental field?
I’ve always seen resources as scarce and not to be taken for granted — How can you do without something, make something last, or find an alternative? This mindset was partially fueled by simple necessity because of my limited means, but there was also motivation in the joy of innovation.
With this outlook, it wasn’t hard to see early on that our environment is paying the price for many of our wasteful behaviors. I want a safe, healthy place to live, and I want the same for others. To get paid to help make that a reality is a dream come true.

What's one thing you're passionate about or inspired by outside of work?
Wherever most people find music and dancing, I want to be there. I’ve recently discovered the larger world of partnered social dancing to different styles — West Coast Swing, Bachata, Brazilian Zouk, Lindy Hop, Blues — and I don’t even know what I was doing with my life before this discovery. Through dance, I get to express myself, listen to the most interesting music, communicate with people from all over the world, and travel to cool places. On top of that, I’m learning and honing my skills and my art while getting a good workout in too!
What’s your best piece of advice?
My high school senior quote was, “Follow your bliss,” and I’ve always stuck by that.
What’s your favorite meal to cook?
Honestly, I’m not much of a cook; I much prefer to dine out and try new things. But when I do need to make a meal at home, a good breakfast for breakfast, lunch, or dinner never disappoints.
