Employee Spotlight: Paul-Emile Lorthioir, Process Engineer
Meeting Paul-Emile LORTHIOIR , Process Engineer in the Customer Service team at AddUp!
Tell us a little about yourself:
Paul-Emile, ‘P-E’ for close colleagues, 55 Kg of muscles the summer, 60Kg during the winter after some truffades (an Auvergne culinary specialty)!
After a first experience in the additive manufacturing of three years in a subsidiary company of Airbus, I joined AddUp (Poly-Shape at the time) in 2018 as Process and Material Engineer in the method department. This first position enabled me to work on different LBM machines, different materials and to develop a lot of experience in the part production. Then, I was in the Part Production department to provide a technical expertise to the production and the finishing team. Since 2023, I’m in the customer service team (the best department in AddUp).
Can you summarize what you do at AddUp? How long have you been working here? What’s your job title?
As Process Engineer in the Customer Service team, I can have different tasks to perform to AddUp customers: support to the qualification, identify some use cases, co-design for parts, autonomy ramp-up, optimization of the production, upgrading equipment, switching material or machine relocation.
The idea is to bring and transfer AddUp experience to customers.
It’s a very interesting job which allows to discover other corporate cultures or other countries. For example, last month, I spent three weeks in Japan to re-commissioning a FormUp, validate a recipe and train a customer.

What about AddUp enticed you the most?
My professional career at AddUp allowed me to ‘have fun’ in this innovative technology, the metallic additive manufacturing, whether during parametric development (creating a recipe to produce parts from powders) or during exchanges and co-working with passionate colleagues. What appeals me is also the fact that we are challenger, and the results of our work (the FormUp and other supports) are starting to be recognized by major company (medical, aeronautical…).
When you aren’t at AddUp, what are you doing? What brings you the most joy?
I practice road cycling in competition (sometime gravel). This sport (like any competitive sport I think), allowed me to be resilient and perseverant. What I like about this sport, is the taste of effort and spending time with my friends during long training sessions.
Otherwise, I like spending time in nature (hiking with my family, trail running).
What is your biggest motivator? How do you motivate yourself?
The routine would demotivate me! In AddUp, every day is different. There are many things to build or to optimize.
Where is your favorite place you’ve ever traveled to? Why?
The Puy de Dome (no, it’s a joke!). Without hesitation, the Ubaye valley, in the French Alps. For nature lovers and sport addict, this is the place to be. You can ski, practice water sports, run, walk, ride on bicycle the biggest (and famous) Alps Mountain passes. Most of the time with the sun and mild temperatures ??
Paul-Emile LORTHIOIR always there for the rescue. The all-star service team!
What a smile!
