Employee Spotlight: Michael Dargan

Michael Dargan, our in-house Guinness expert has made his way to Sydney by way of Vancouver, embracing the sun and diving headfirst into Australia’s dynamic media industry. In just four months at Murmur, he’s already made quite the impression as a Senior Account Manager, bringing with him a passion for marketing, a thirst for knowledge, and an infectious enthusiasm for all things media.

Michael’s journey into marketing began early on—business studies were a favourite subject at school, and his father’s career in marketing served as a constant source of inspiration. With a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Marketing Innovation and Digital Marketing under his belt, Michael was set on carving out his own path in the industry. “Media is exciting; it can inspire, excite, convince, and communicate en masse!” he shares.

So, what brought him to Murmur? “The stars aligned,” he explained, “It hadn’t been long since I landed in Sydney before we connected. The challenge, the trajectory of the agency, and most of all, the people—that’s what really drew me in.”

A Day in the Life of a Senior Account Manager

Michael’s role at Murmur is all about ensuring clients are well taken care of. As the first point of contact, he offers strategic advice, communication planning, and performance management to help clients achieve their goals. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly how he likes it.

When asked what excites him most about the future of media and advertising, “AI is levelling up the industry, and so are the people behind it. The pace of innovation keeps us on our toes, and staying at the cutting edge is what excites me the most.”

Staying ahead of the curve is no small feat, but Michael has a game plan. Whether it’s email subscriptions, industry events, or webinars through platforms like IMAA - Independent Media Agencies Australia , Marketing Week , and AdNews Australia , he lives by the motto: "ABA - Always Be Asking."

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Media Professionals

For those just starting out, Michael’s advice is simple but powerful: “Spend your early time in media ‘sponging’ as much knowledge as you can. Find a mentor you can trust, ask questions, and explore different roles to figure out what you truly enjoy.”

When he’s not busy strategising for clients, Michael has a few surprises up his sleeve. “Once upon a time, I recorded, edited, and published mindfulness podcasts on Spotify,” he reveals—an unexpected hobby that showcases his creative side.

And the most unusual job he’s ever had? “Working as an intern at an architect’s office when I was 14. Let’s just say I learned pretty quickly that architecture wasn’t for me!”

Driven by Passion

What keeps Michael motivated to bring his best self to work every day? “Work is one of my favorite ways to keep learning and building myself as a professional,” he says. “The opportunity to grow and refine my expertise excites me.”
