Employee Spotlight: Meet Paul Lewis
In this month's employee spotlight, we’re talking to Warehouse and Logistics Manager, Paul Lewis to find out what led to his career at Alcon.
When did you join Alcon? ?
I joined Alcon in August 2021. Some of my previous roles prior to Alcon have been Despatch Manager, Warehouse Manager and Central Logistics Manager.
What qualifications do you have? ?
What does your job entail?
My role primarily centres around people management and decision-making. With a large team spread across three sites, there’s always something to keep me busy! The diversity of my responsibilities, while regularly challenging, is incredibly rewarding. I work with goods-in, dispatch, and shipping to oversee the organisation of deliveries and storage from our warehouse. Working closely with my team, I monitor the planned weekly schedule while maintaining throughput. Additionally, I communicate with multiple departments to ensure they have all the necessary resources to achieve our throughput goals.
When I initially joined Alcon, the main challenge was opening our new warehouse, Borman. A substantial part of my role has involved stabilising the new site and supporting our new team along the way. Summarising my role is difficult because no two days are alike. Priorities often shift based on specific orders, and we regularly adapt to meet customer requirements.

What do you like most about your job?
I love the people at Alcon. Supporting my team and tackling challenges with them is a big part of my role. I consistently strive to apply the knowledge and experience I’ve acquired throughout my journey to all my endeavours. I take pleasure in creating structured processes and procedures within the business that remain accessible to anyone in the future who may need to utilise them.
Is there anything else you’d like to add about your experience at Alcon?
I am very proud of the progress we've made in our new warehouse, it's been a lot of work with the team and we've grown internally, bringing new fantastic people on each year. Whilst planning and working with multiple suppliers and team members, what we have achieved with hard work, dedication and commitment is truly amazing. Working together as ‘one team’, in line with Alcon’s visons, is what has made our new site Borman a huge success. I am proud of my personal progression as I first started as a Warehouse Supply Chain Team Leader, and was later promoted to Warehouse and Logistics Manager. Alcon is fantastic to work for because they truly care and look after the team.
Do you have any advice to someone who just started their career? Any lessons you’ve learnt along the way?
Having been in various management positions for almost 30 years, I have acquired many valuable insights along the way. Most prominently, I’ve learned the importance of honesty and self-truth, maintaining an open mind, and embracing advice when it’s offered. This will plan for continuous improvements within your area of responsibility and beyond. My open-mindedness allows me to adapt constantly and remain flexible in addressing customer requirements, which often undergo regular changes.
