Employee Spotlight: Meet Justin Bettencourt

Justin is a Senior National Account Executive within the Sales team at Moneris. He has been with Moneris for over 15 years and currently supports a portfolio of 14 clients including some of Canada’s largest retailers and transportation merchants.

Justin shares that his dad is his mentor. Justin’s parents came to Canada from Guyana, and even with the challenges of racism and adversity, his dad successfully built an accounting practice and a stable life for his family. As a result of his dad’s example and teachings, Justin has held a strong focus on his goals and the need to continuously meet or exceed the expectations set out for him, because there will always be those who try to judge you based on your skin colour or race.

Early in his career, Justin faced racism as the only visible minority in his group of associates, yet he continued to persist and achieve his goals. This experience drove him to become a mentor to the next group of Black associates that joined his organization at the time, many of whom are still his friends to date.

Justin is an avid volleyball player and has played competitively at Provincial and Club levels. Volleyball has been a great outlet for Justin and is a game that he excelled at early in life, despite his participation in many other sports throughout his school years. The game has allowed Justin to make several connections with other Black professionals within the volleyball and Black communities, and these connections have helped his personal and professional life over the years. Justin’s mantra of hard work and resilience has been instrumental in his success both on and off the court.
