Employee Spotlight - Marcus Robertson, Regional Director - Watches of Switzerland

"I joined the Watches of Switzerland Group at the beginning of February 2020. I can’t quite believe the time since then has gone so quickly!

Prior to joining WoSG, I had never worked in the horological and jewellery industry before. My background was in the automotive industry, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this area. My true passion however, has always been watches (since as early as I can remember with my grandfather letting me try on his watch as a very young boy) and I always had a burning desire to be involved professionally with beautiful timepieces and couldn’t quite believe my eyes when the role within Rolex Glasgow at Watches of Switzerland became available!

The wonderful thing is that the skills I had learned in my previous industry were completely transferable - it really is all about leading, coaching, developing, and supporting colleagues and offering clients the very best luxury experience possible.

WoSG are wonderful at tuning in with you to understand what you want to achieve personally and commercially and what you need to help you and your team be as successful as possible. The infrastructure means that there are many wonderfully talented colleagues who are there to offer all the support you and your team need and more, at all times. Everyone is so helpful and happy to take time with you to support your journey to success. It really is very humbling. ?

I have been delighted to have worked within the wonderful showroom that is Rolex Glasgow and given the amazing experiences I have had there and the wonderful things that has been achieved by the team, I jumped at the opportunity of working within The Rolex Boutique on Old Bond Street in London to support them on their journey too. This too has been an outstanding experience, and I am so proud of the team there on what they have achieved in these last several months along by my side.

To give a snapshot on the best things about working here is hard to keep to a minimal; the focus on people and the support given, then the focus on our clients really sets the benchmark of being the best in the world for luxury client experiences. The fast-paced environment, the clients we serve, the outstanding brands we represent, the career opportunities available, the training, the opportunity to celebrate and share success across the organisation, the fact that the organisation really listens to you - you have a voice and the feeling of togetherness that exists.

I love how the business has changed and embraced change over the years that I have been part of it. It’s so impressive to see its further investment in recruitment, training and learning and development, its approach and further development of online client support and sales through the WoS virtual boutique, its focus and further development of the client experience and client journey and how it’s at the forefront of everything we do, not to mention its exponential growth of the number of stunningly beautiful new showrooms around the world in the very best locations. The recent growth of Pre-Owned more recently is super exciting to see too. There and so many other areas to mention and I could discuss them all day!

In my new role as Regional Director, I shall be responsible for supporting, mentoring, developing and coordinating all of the wonderful showroom leaders and teams within the geographical area that I am responsible for within Watches of Switzerland. I am looking forward to driving value adding business change, to develop and coach new talent, to develop new innovative ways of working as we aim to offer the finest level of client experience in the world and have clients and colleagues too that are delighted alike.?

Moving from my previous role as Showroom General Manager to Regional Director is a daunting one, and one which scares me and excites me in equal measure! I have been very humbled by the wonderful support and backing I have had from my fellow colleagues during and after my journey of securing this wonderful role. Over and above this, I cannot speak highly enough of the induction programme that was put in place for me for my new role. It’s not often you hear of induction programmes for colleagues who have been with an organisation for a long time already when changing job title!

I am looking forward to my future with Watches of Switzerland!"
