Employee Spotlight: Lu Xia

Employee Spotlight: Lu Xia

This week in our Employee Spotlight series, we meet Lu Xia, who discusses her career and experiences at JERA. Don’t forget to like the JERA page for more employee stories and to keep up to date with our latest position openings.

Please tell us a little about you

I am originally from China. During university, I studied abroad in Tokyo. I ended up staying in Japan. Once I graduated, I joined a steel company, gaining experience in finance. I also worked in risk management at the Chinese branch of a general trading company. At JERA, I have had the unique experience of being a foreigner, a woman, and a mother. My hobbies include traveling and eating delicious food.

What is role at JERA and what do you enjoy the most about your role?

I am a Manager in the Financial Strategy and Planning Unit at JERA. Upon joining JERA, I participated in a Project Management Office for a new integrated risk model, a large project to develop a model in cooperation with the planning and management department. There were many difficulties at first, such as modifying the model to accommodate organizational changes, supplementing my statistical knowledge, and strengthening my understanding of the company's business. I find it most rewarding to see the project moving forward in a better direction through teamwork. I aim not to set limits for myself and to absorb the knowledge of those around me.

What attracted you to JERA as a company?

I was attracted to the fact that although JERA is a huge company, it is also evolving rapidly and taking on challenges on a global stage.

What has been the most transformative experience you've had since joining JERA?

In the past, I worked at a traditional Japanese company where all of the operation systems and rules were set in the company's tradition, so I was often passive in trying to make change. However, JERA is a new company that is flexible and innovative, so I have the freedom to make and implement proposals for building and improving new systems, operational rules, and more.

What’s one piece of advice you would share with your younger self?

I want to tell my younger self to stand up, speak louder, and express yourself more!

What would you tell someone that is interested in joining JERA?

I would like to tell you exactly what my current boss said during my final interview. “JERA is a company that embraces your life as it is, so take on challenges as you are.”
