Employee Spotlight: Josh Golding
C.L. Electrical Controls Limited
Manufacturer and installer of Mobile and Fibre Telecoms Cabinets, BEMS Control Panels and Huber+Suhner UK Sales Partner
Welcome to the second instalment of our Employee Spotlight series. Throughout the series we will showcase our expert staff and the career opportunities at CL Electrical.
Our second interviewee works as an onsite control panel engineer. This role includes being responsible for designing, developing, testing and maintaining electrical control panels that are used in industrial settings such as Government buildings.
An onsite engineer may need to maintain electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, they could program software and will be involved with troubleshooting, diagnosing and fixing issues with control panels and their systems.
In the second of our Employee Spotlight series, we have interviewed Josh Golding who has worked with us for over 6 years.
Tell us about yourself:
I have worked at CL for around six years. I started as a control panel builder and gained a promotion after around two years to become an onsite control panel engineer.
I started when I was 18 and learned on the job, supervisors in the workshop trained me initially but when I was offered the promotion, I was trained by a director of CL to become qualified in my field.
?Tell us about your day to day activities:
Most days I will work on site. For my role I do a lot of control system hardware upgrades, panels are upgraded from the likes of Sigma and Andover to Schneider EBO and Trend IQ. I will install the new controllers and modules, diagnose any issues, and carry out maintenance.
At some points I work in the workshop and that usually includes building panels I will take to site to install. I interpret drawings for the specifications.
Do you enjoy your role?
I really enjoy my role and I am lucky that it varies, and I travel a lot. I have worked across the UK and it’s true that you’re never more than a mile away from some of our work! ?
At a job in Scotland, we were surrounded by beautiful views and it was simply not like being at work, if you can find a job that offers that, you are winning really.
What is it like to work for CL?
In general we are lucky to have great teams across the board, the workshop people are really good and they’re always on hand to help. Everyone works together and if someone has a better idea of how to do something, they will share it, to help everyone.
The teams onsite are brilliant and again, it makes it just a better way to work. In this type of job there will always be someone with a better understanding and more knowledge and at CL everyone is willing to share theirs, I think that makes for a great environment.
I think the management treat people fairly and there are equal opportunities to progress. I got my promotion I believe, because I worked hard in the workshop and it was recognised by one of the directors who then asked if I would like to try a new role. Him identifying me for that promotion really helped me progress.
Would you recommend CL?
Yes, but not for people who want to be domestic electricians! It’s a completely different job! But if you want to work for a decent company with decent people- come to CL.
