Employee Spotlight: Jay Guarneri

Pennichuck’s employee spotlight feature is GIS Administrator, Jay Guarneri . As the GIS Administrator, Jay works on the managing and maintenance of infrastructure in our GIS System. He does this by developing apps and web maps with the data that’s collected through the GIS system. With all of the water infrastructure Pennichuck uses it is essential to have this information stay updated with the help of Jay and the GIS Team.

How long have you worked at Pennichuck?

What got you interested in work in GIS?

I really like maps and working with data. GIS is a powerful way to turn raw data into useful, digestible information.

What do you like more about your role at Pennichuck?

I like the diverse challenges of presenting our data in different ways for different needs. Also, it’s always great getting data into people’s hands, giving them ownership over that data, and seeing what they do with it or ask for next.

What is an important lesson you have learned in your career?

Communication is the #1 most important skill, pretty much no matter what job you’re in.

What is your favorite thing about working in the water industry?

The water industry is rapidly becoming more data centric. There are so many new frontiers to explore as we turn that vision into a reality.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I love growing fruit! I even have a small side hustle selling fruit trees and bushes.
