EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT - FIRDAUS RAZALI

In this installment of #PISBmeet, we catch up with Firdaus Razali, who became part of our team back in 2020. Firdaus holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University. His contributions have been instrumental in successfully executing numerous projects focused on Asset Integrity and Reliability. These include leading FMEA workshops, conducting Equipment Criticality Analysis (ECA), and aiding major oil and gas corporations in crafting internal standards as a technical writer.

Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I had my first spark to pursue a career in engineering during my high school days, where I often found myself drawn to solving problems and providing means to ease everyday tasks and challenges. In classrooms, lessons on inventions and innovations are the ones that I managed to survive in (read: not sleep in class), while outside of classrooms, I often get lost in thoughts of how I could improve on and innovate everyday mechanisms and machines that I see around me.

Fast forward to my first job, I landed a position that required me to do root causing, modeling and simulation on a daily basis. This first experience of root causing and providing solutions to real-life problems which translate to time and cost saving further strengthened my passion in engineering. After 3 years, I got my first experience in the oil & gas industry as a metering & instrumentation engineer. As this field emphasizes on measurement accuracy, data integrity, and equipment reliability, this was when I first truly embraced the concept and importance of asset integrity and reliability.

Finally, in April 2020, I joined Pure Integrity Sdn Bhd (PISB), where I feel that the puzzles of my career life are coming together; my passion for providing value to others and the opportunities to work in asset integrity and reliability related projects. Added with PISB’s strong emphasis on professional self-development, work & life balance, flexible work opportunities and strong mentorship supports, the career that I have today is genuinely one that I would like to continue pursuing in the foreseeable future.

What does your job entail?

My primary functions are in technical writing and asset integrity & reliability projects. For the technical writing works, I facilitate technical writing projects for the development of strategic and operational documents via the enhancement of technical content and enabling effective collaboration between document content owners and stakeholders. For the asset integrity & reliability projects, I am involved in the preparation and workshop facilitation of various engineering studies covering FMEA, RCM, RBI, ERS, ECA, SIL, SCE, SSPS, etc.

What is your most valuable lesson from working at PISB?

A positive working environment, efficient mentoring program, availability of multitudes of challenges via different project portfolios, transparency across the organization, and trust across different working levels can bring out your full potential. These are all the values that are part of PISB cultures that have kept me going and motivated me in all the years that I’m here.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Be it sports or traveling, I enjoy pretty much everything with good companions, particularly with my beloved family. When I’m alone, just staring at the clouds or waves by the beach is often something that I really like doing too.
