Employee spotlight: Faezeh Rasimarzabadi, Research Officer, Aerospace Research Centre
National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada
Meet Faezeh Rasimarzabadi, a research officer from the Aerospace Research Centre 's Gas Turbine Lab in Ottawa. Faezeh marked 5 years at the NRC in January and has had an interesting career journey.
Originally from Iran, Faezeh attended the Amirkabir University of Technology where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. She went on to receive her master's degree and PhD from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran, with a focus on aerospace engineering and aerodynamics. Her interest in, and dedication to, aerospace engineering stemmed from her love for math and science in high school, which inspired her to delve further in this field during post-secondary studies. She learned that she thoroughly enjoys problem solving and activities that involve analytical thinking.
During her studies, Faezeh worked as a part-time assistant professor and a technical leader of several multidisciplinary teams for modelling analysis of different fluid mechanics problems. Before joining the NRC, Faezeh earned her postdoctoral position at the 加拿大阿尔伯塔大学 , where she worked on fluid flow measurement in the Optical Diagnostics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She also spent some time as a program analyst at Bombardier , a Canadian aircraft manufacturing company, where she worked on the Global 7500/8000 business jet.
Today, Faezeh's typical day at the NRC involves working on key research in hybrid electric aircraft technologies, including developing and validating new airframe-engine configurations, and thermal management systems.
Earlier this year, Faezeh and her team developed a unique sub-scale rig capable of shifting operating pressure levels and the ratio of the aircraft's speed to the surrounding air's speed. It can build boundary layers of different thickness and replicate fan inlet velocity distortion (as expected for the entire aircraft). This technological design aims to reduce the amount of aircraft fuel consumption to help in the reduction of emissions during flight.
