Employee Spotlight - Edwin Heisterkamp
1. Can you tell us about your career journey and how you ended up in your current role at Brainomix?
My career has been quite a journey, shaped by my varied interests and the opportunities that came my way. ?I became fascinated by X-ray technology during my military service, which then led me to study radiography in Holland after I left the service. I moved to Sweden and worked as a general radiographer for a few years. I was particularly drawn to CT/MRI technology and eventually specialized in computer-supported radiology, where I also helped radiologists with their research.
In 2000, I was part of an exciting shift at Malm? University Hospital when we transitioned from analogue to fully digital radiography at a new Diagnostic Centre. At the time, I was managing the A&E department, which was an incredibly rewarding experience. Eventually, I became the Radiology Department Manager, before moving on to a role at Carestream as an Application Consultant.
From 2006 to 2019, I held several roles, including Application Consultant, Service Manager, Project Manager, and eventually EMEA Manager for the application and project team. I’ve always been drawn to new challenges, so when Brainomix approached me in 2019 about the Territory Healthcare Manager (THM) role for the Nordics, UK, and Ireland, I jumped at the chance. It was an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of AI and Stroke management and to contribute to technology that’s making a real difference in patient outcomes.
2. What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same, and that’s what keeps things interesting. I live in Sweden but manage customer relationships across the Nordics, the UK, Ireland, and now the Middle East. This means I’m constantly navigating different cultures, time zones, and healthcare systems. It’s a challenge, but it’s also one of the things I love most about my job.
I often find myself juggling multiple tasks—whether it’s supporting the sales team, managing projects, ensuring customer satisfaction, conducting training sessions, performing upgrades, or attending conferences. The variety in my work, combined with being part of a great team and watching the company grow, makes my role both dynamic and fulfilling.
3. How do you build and maintain strong relationships with customers from a technical standpoint?
For me, building strong customer relationships is all about teamwork. Success is never the result of just one person—it’s a collaborative effort across the entire company. Key elements for me include being reliable, responding quickly, following up, and most importantly, really listening to what the customer needs. These relationships start from the very beginning of a project and continue throughout its duration. Being there for the customer every step of the way is crucial to ensuring their satisfaction and success.
4. Can you share a memorable experience or project you’ve worked on at Brainomix?
I’ve had the chance to work on many memorable projects, but two stand out. The first was during the early days of COVID-19. Like everyone else, we had to completely rethink how we managed projects and interacted with customers. Thankfully, most of our activities could be handled remotely, and we adapted successfully to the new normal. In many ways, COVID-19 pushed us to innovate and improve how we manage projects.

The second memorable experience was the NHSX AI Award project. Brainomix was awarded this prestigious project, and we managed to get 37 hospitals in the UK up and running with Brainomix 360 Stroke in a very short timeframe. It was challenging but incredibly rewarding, showing our ability to scale and deliver under pressure.
5. What future developments or projects are you most excited about in terms of improving our technical operations for customers?
I have now been with Brainomix for 5 years and managed more than 120 installations. I’m excited about the ongoing growth in my regions of responsibility. Our development team in Oxford is constantly working on improving our current tools and developing new AI algorithms. We’ve already established a strong position as the market leader in Europe, with a large and growing installed base, including national solutions in countries like Poland, Hungary, and Wales.
One area I’m particularly enthusiastic about is our new AI developments targeting other medical conditions, like Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) with our e-Lung tool. The potential to expand beyond Stroke management and support even more healthcare areas is incredibly promising.
6. What hobbies/activities do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, I’ve found a real passion for fitness, which started during the COVID-19 pandemic. I began going to the gym regularly, and now I’m training five days a week. I’ve even become a Bodypump instructor, which lets me encourage others to lead a healthier lifestyle.
I also love playing golf—it was one of the few sports that wasn’t impacted by COVID. And beyond that, I’m all about enjoying life, whether with great food, fantastic drinks, or indulging my passion for gin.
