Dublin Bus (Bus átha Cliath)
Ireland's largest public transport provider
Ciara is currently a bus driver with Dublin Bus. She commenced her training to become a bus driver on the 4 April 2023, and was appointed in April 2024. Ciara is based in the Conyngham Road Depot.
Career before Dublin Bus
Ciara shared, “Prior to joining Dublin Bus, I was the Director of my own hairdressing salon, as well as a stylist and master colourist. This was a very demanding role, with many responsibilities and worries that come with being self-employed. I wanted a change of career and no longer desired being my own boss. I achieved everything l wanted from hairdressing and desired a new career that was secure, rewarding, and involved working with people”.
What inspired you to work for Dublin Bus
Ciara said, “l read a recruitment advert on social media that Dublin Bus was looking to hire female drivers, and my mother had suggested many times that I apply. But l had some reservations. Having come from an all-female environment in the salon, I was reluctant and nervous to enter such a male-dominated field. However, I already had C and D1 licences and enjoyed driving, so I decided to complete the application form. Following my interview, I was offered a position with Dublin Bus. I began my intensive driver training and was assigned to the Conyngham Road Depot.”
Describe your team at Dublin Bus
Ciara explained, “My team is like a family; we’re all working together, supporting each other at all levels. Even when I am out driving on my bus route, there is always an Inspector in Central Control who will listen, guide, and assist.? There is never a problem or an issue that cannot be solved. The team is incredibly encouraging, supportive, and approachable. I’m delighted to be part of a great team.”

What is enjoyable about the job
“Being involved in the recruitment and social media campaigns has been my proudest moments at Dublin Bus. I feel very privileged to work in such a large company where they take time to know their staff, as well as recognise and develop their skills.”
Proudest achievement to date
Ciara admits, “One day while on duty, driving the Route 69 through Saggart Village, my father just happened to spot me behind the wheel! It was his first time seeing me in full uniform and driving for Dublin Bus, l don’t think he realised until that moment, that l was actually a professional bus driver.
Later on that day, he told me how proud he is of his daughter, driving for the largest transport operator in the country.? Also, l am very proud to be involved in the current female driver recruitment campaign and to have assisted with the media launch earlier this year, along with some very fun and interesting media interviews. “
