Employee Spotlight: Betsy Thomas

CommScope recently celebrated 25 years of operational excellence in Goa, India with a grand silver jubilee celebration. The various ceremonies held during the event included a celebration of Goa employees who have achieved remarkable service milestones with CommScope. One such employee, Betsy Thomas, Manager of MWS and Filter Operations, was recognized for completing 25 years at CommScope.

Betsy joined CommScope in January 1998, which was then called Andrew Telecommunications India Pvt. Ltd.?One of the first five employees to be hired by the company during its initial days, Betsy began her career as a technical engineer in the coaxial cable assembly and accessories product group. She then moved on to serve as a process and test engineer for the coaxial assembly lines and then transitioned into a managerial position.?

Since then, Betsy has managed various product lines at CommScope spanning from copper patch cords, fiber assembly, base station antennas and microwave antennas and filters. Over the years, she had the opportunity to keep learning, overcome challenges, gain guidance from great leaders and lead some amazing teams. Her journey continues forward to this day.

Speaking about the opportunities she got as part of CommScope over the years, Betsy says there was never a dull moment. “Be it from setting up new product lines or ramping up capacities to working on freight cost reduction or layout optimization, every day has given me a new insight into my own capabilities as well as provided me with tremendous learning opportunities.” ?

Betsy recalls that her most memorable project involved the transfer of the Sureflex Cable Assembly Product Line to Goa from another CommScope site, which she termed a great learning experience. She elaborated on the three major elements that were involved - the transfer of the production lines and product assembly knowledge, a packaging redesign to reduce freight costs, and the most important element of the project, the sourcing and qualification of cable in India. “There were quite a few challenges during the equipment transfer and the cable localization, but the team overcame all challenges with a collaborative approach and displayed the core CommScope values of innovation and teamwork to meet the project timelines,” she explained.

Commenting on the culture at CommScope, Betsy believes that CommScope promotes a culture conducive to learning and growth and promotes respect for every individual.?

Betsy lives by a Paulo Coelho quote that reads, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” She has persevered and worked her way to success through her commitment to her industry. Her advice to anyone looking to thrive professionally is to “dream big and pursue your dreams. There are no limits or boundaries to any profession – we set the limits within our minds.”
