Employee Retention

Employee Retention is a never-ending conundrum for strategic HR professionals. Typically, what first comes to mind is develop initiatives to retain people ‘during’ their employment. However, quite often, the key is to ‘onboard’ them effectively and comprehensively as a new hire.  From communicating the work hours and directions to the restroom - to an overview of the company – ‘starting’ a new employee with essential information and tools will remain with and impact them throughout their tenure. They should not be thrown into their job until the launch process is completed – often times taking up to three days. So often when I have exit-interviewed employees, they pointed out how they were not fully equipped to do their job from the outset. Companies who do not devote the necessary resources to onboarding, factors in significantly to their employee voluntary turnover! Please share your comments if you feel you have an ironclad, core method that addresses Employee Retention.
