Employee Ownership: so many questions
John Shinnick
Strategic Advisor; I help people and businesses to achieve corporate success
Yesterday, I attended the EO North meeting run by the EOA, the Employee Ownership Association. It is a national organisation of businesses and advisors involved in the rapidly growing EO sector; now at over 2,000 businesses. In the North West alone, there are 200+ EOT companies with a combined turnover of £3bn+ and it will only grow. I am Independent Trustee to six North West businesses, ranging in turnover size from £3m to £400m and will take that to nine in the next year.
What did I get from yesterday's meeting? Continuing confirmation of the collaborative nature of employee owned businesses. All in the room were ready to share experiences, successes and challenges without fear or favour, including Creed Comms who I have semi-decapitated in the above image.
Apologies, Gemma Stimpson , Caroline Hill (FCIM) and Simon McLoughlin (FCIM) but I wanted to emphasise the combination of 'Questions?' and 'Proudly Employee Owned'. If you are employee-owned, are not members of the EOA and need to find your Tribe, it is out there waiting for you.
And if you are thinking about employee-ownership and want to talk about what it could mean and have piles of questions, just shout. The EOA are excellent at responding and I am an advocate and always up for direct contact, coffee and to share: it's an EO Collaborative Thing.

1 个月The most staggering fact still remains is how many people are talking about EOTs or advising on them and haven't actually done or been involved in a transaction, worked through one, or owned a business that has done one. Better regulation and not all accountants professing to being experts will definitely clean up the space. People like you John are definitely thought leaders in this area and highly respected.

1 个月Interesting and I’ve been mjoyed telling to you about EOT’s. They definitely have a place - I’m still wary of some of the reasons for going down the EOT route but increasingly they seem to be better understood and applied
