What does GDPR mean for care professionals
What is GDPR
GDPR is a new data protection act that came into place on the 25th of May 2018. This means more protection for personal data, also more responsibility for the manager and yourself!
Basic Rules
- People have more rights over their data
- Fine could be up to £20 Million
- You need to be extra careful with any data you store or share
You must always get consent when you collect any data from your residents. The data you gather must be kept safe and securely, if data is not needed it must be removed and destroyed preventing any data from being stolen and falling into the wrong hands.
Remember! - Always make sure your desk is tidy at all times, don't leave personal data lying around. Treat all information as confidential - do not post/share confidential information over social media websites.
Personal information must be kept confidential and not shared outside the workplace as this is classed as a data breach. Remember not to use any personal device to store any of the resident's information to prevent any future data breaches.
