Employee Engagement - "What is it you actually do?"

Employee Engagement - "What is it you actually do?"

I am in a privileged position – Employee Engagement within the business I work for is given a high level of focus, indeed, over the last few years recognition of the importance of Engagement has been gathering pace across the world of business - in no small way, as a result of the work of the Engage For Success movement (For which I’m excited to now be involved with as a volunteer) -? https://engageforsuccess.org/

My role affords me the freedom to be creative and support the corporate strategic goals we all, in our own ways, strive to achieve. However, I was recently asked “What is it that you do?” - for somebody working in Engagement, this is not an uncommon question – One that at some point has been asked by all levels of my organisation, with (Perhaps understandably?) differing levels of implied skepticism.? After all, from the traditional command & control viewpoint, its all rather ‘woolly’ isn’t it??

Simply put, Engagement in the workplace is crucial.?

As well as retaining talent, boosting morale, and enhancing overall performance, Engagement is proven to deliver safer, more productive and more efficient organisations, contributing positively to business performance, after all, wouldn't you want to work in an engaged organisation??

My approach? - To develop Alignment, Engagement & Empowerment focused initiatives leveraging the Four Enablers of Engagement championed by the EFS Movement, namely:?

?1. A Strong Corporate Narrative?

2. Engaged Managers?

3. Employee Voice?

4. Organisational Integrity?

Through these initiatives (Which include visits to Rampion Wind Farm) we strive to ensure everyone in our organisation is working towards the same goals and objectives and can see their role within them – generating rational connections and fostering the emotional commitment our people have towards their roles.?

We give our people the authority, resources, and support they need to make decisions and take ownership of their work, something that could not happen without the commitment from our management team and associates.

I have a huge respect for the care and commitment you give to workforce engagement. You are thorough in your research and open to creative approaches. As you say Jason D. Lane, engagement is not easy to describe but we do understand what commitment and involvement, look like and feel like. Engage for Success offers an excellent, well researched framework. The next step is to devise a bespoke programme that responds to the specific organisation, workforce, leadership and culture. It is a pleasure to work alongside you in the delivery of the Reward and Recognition events. Giving employees at all levels direct experience of the product they manufacture, building knowledge, pride and relationships across the organisation. Venturing out to the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm is fantastic. Complemented through excellent knowledge and insights from Katie Scanlan and the team at the Rampion Offshore Wind Visitor Centre. When weather prevents the boat trip, Brighton i360 is our alternative. A great engineering achievement, giving views of the turbine field supported by a great team of staff.
