Money Making Ideas ON DEMAND
“Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident.” – A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
WARNING: The first part of this Newsletter is somewhat…dry. But, it’s necessary in order to get to the ‘wetter’ parts that come afterward.???
On many occasions people have asked me,
‘How DO you consistently come up with such great ideas, Bob?’
I usually answer that it is a combination of Knowledge, Experience and Imagination.
The K.E.I. to better ideas.
But, it’s actually more in-depth than that. Oh, sometimes I do have an A-HA moment where a stroke of genius flashes into my mind.
But, A-HA moments are elusive and unreliable.
They’re like lightning bolts. You never know when, where or if they’re going to strike. You can’t power a house that way.
That’s why I use processes; scientific, structured ways of utilizing my Knowledge, Experience and Imagination to consistently developing great ideas.
This week, I am providing a glimpse behind one of my creative thinking processes called Anchor Term.
Years ago, I modified a well-known creative thinking method called Combinatory Play to effectively develop better ideas for my clients.
In this Anchor Term method, I take what my clients need to improve (Wine Sales, Employee Engagement, Book Marketing, etc.) and use that as my Anchor Term.
I then combine that Anchor Term with random nouns and industries from my game What’s The BIG Idea? and do a rapid-fire idea generation session.
If you want more information about Anchor Term and how you might apply it, read the article I wrote for FDI Alliance International magazine titled, Why You Should Become A Mad Scientist. Read that here .
Now, for the wet part. ??
Below is a replication of the raw process I used to come up with ideas for monetizing the podcast, One Last Thought . It is a show that is put together by Ido Singer . Besides his innovative show project, Ido was previously the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at UNC Greensboro and is now an Associate Recruiter at Charles Aris Executive Search.?
As you’ll see, the Anchor Term I used in my thinking process was: Podcast Income.
If you know a podcaster, please share this with them. If you ARE a podcaster, feel free to utilize these ideas.
Note: The words preceding the ideas are a part of the Anchor Term innovation method I outlined above. Some have ideas and some don’t. This is not an error, but is left in raw form to show the process used in creating the ideas.
Distribution – Podcast Income
How about, rather than seeking sponsors as many shows do, set up affiliate arrangements with companies whose products and/or services you believe in and feature those in your bumpers and show notes?
You can ask them to create a special for your listeners.
Bagel – Podcast Income
Do a co-marketing agreement with a regional or national chain to promote their breakfast while they link to your podcast.
Passenger – Podcast Income
Develop a podcasting cooperative; whereby each of you shares links to the other’s shows when they launch. Doing this via social media will create more listeners for all shows involved. You could do a poll of your listeners and ask them ‘What other content they enjoy’.
By doing this, you are providing enhanced value to your listeners and your collaborators simultaneously. This will create exponentially more traffic and will allow you to take full advantage of any advertising or affiliate agreements you have in place.
Blinds – Podcast Income
Leather – Podcast Income
Desk – Podcast Income
As your audience grows, you could sell merchandise branded with your show logo. As you do, you could run a contest whereby people submit their photo wearing your podcast logo gear, drinking from a glass with your logo, etc. Provide prizes and make it fun.
Or, you may not even have to provide any prizes. It provides social currency to them by simply recognizing them verbally on your show. A side benefit of this is, everyone you do shout out will share that episode with everyone they know and on all their social channels.
Motor – Podcast Income
Mirror – Podcast Income
Jeans – Podcast Income
Business – Podcast Income
Not sure exactly who your listeners are, but I think you should reach out to athletic departments all over the country (and even the world) to make them aware of your unique show. Tell them about how you utilize it to inspire and motivate the members of your team to higher performance on the court and in the rest of life.
Building those relationships will likely elevate your income in ways you might not even realize yet.
The 10 Industries are:
Containers – Podcast Income
Companies who make containers create them in different sizes. As unique and cool as the format of your show is, perhaps you could create some longer-form interview episodes with certain guests.
Offer a written version of your show. This could feature the aforementioned advertisers or affiliate links.
3D Printing – Podcast Income
Education – Podcast Income
Education is done in many ways now. Because the content of your show helps to educate people on success principles, perhaps you could package your shows into content that educators can use? John Stossel does a series called ‘Stossel in the Classroom’.
This could be used in formal educational settings, but also in the growing Home School communities.
Boating – Podcast Income
Through your social media pages, organize episode ‘listen parties’. Encourage fans to self-organize times to do this.
They could turn this into a social occasion by all being on a video conference together and listening to the show. Doing this would allow them to pause the show and discuss relevant points being made by the guest. Not unlike a game night, your show could be a real source of conversation starting.
Communications – Podcast Income
Radio – Podcast Income
Grocery Store – Podcast Income
Bar – Podcast Income
Music – Podcast Income
Choose a composer whose music you enjoy and feature them as bumper music on your show. One suggestion would be to pick someone who is still an independent. That way, the only permissions you must get to use the music are theirs. As an example, the Bourquin Brothers compose some high quality and varied types of music. (Hear their music and see some videos they’ve created to go with it at https://www.bourquins.com/ )
Cleaning – Podcast Income

Try this method to see if it can help you develop better ideas. You might even use the words/industries here to combine with your own Anchor Term.
By the way, in reviewing these ideas I was inspired by the idea under ‘Boating’ to encourage the readers of this Newsletter to create a Readers Club; a way for you to Mastermind and Collaborate in order to develop better ideas.
If YOU organize one of these discussion groups, please let me know. I will do my best to engage with you and offer input.?

Expert Tip
I am honored to have my Brother From Another Mother, David Brier, providing this week's Expert Tip! According to his profile here, David is
Google’s #1 Rebranding Expert ? Slayer of the Mundane ? Liberator of Awesome ? Advisor to CEOs ? Author of Amazon’s Branding Bestseller “BRAND INTERVENTION” responsible for $6B in sales ? Keynote Speaker
I attest that he is ALL that! Here is his advice on:
HOW TO START SELLING A LOT MORE
For over 40 years, I’ve helped companies generate over $7 billion in sales helping stubborn and unapologetic entrepreneurs become helping stubborn, unapologetic, and wealthy entrepreneurs.
In every branding assignment, I do one thing: I make sure that my client OWNS the narrative and language, OWNS the look, OWNS the dialog, and OWNS the brand story. How?
By personally becoming a media company. What?
Ask any CEO and they’ll tell you one thing: “Start selling a lot more.”
It’s what CEOs, brand managers, entrepreneurs and startups figure is the answer to almost any business problem. And ultimately, it is.
While it’s true, it’s unsustainable unless we tackle something that is the foundation of all growth.
FINDING OUT WHERE YOUR BRAND REALLY LIVES
Gary Vaynerchuk said:
“Every human being is a media company.
“Truly great marketers and salespeople don’t ‘sell’ like most people do …?
“Instead, they become media companies.?
“Start thinking of yourself as a media publisher in your space (i.e. Inc, Wall Street Journal, ESPN, etc) instead of an advertiser on those platforms. Think of yourself as the TV show, not the commercial on the TV show.?
“You’ll start selling a LOT more.”
How the hell do you do that?
TOTAL OWNERSHIP: HOW WE BECOME KNOWN
Like Gary said, we each need to BE the publishing platform.
In other words, we’re no longer the commercial (or the side dish). Now we’re the show itself (or the entree).
How much do we need to own your space? 100% percent X 10.
It’s not enough to “do an incremental shift.”
????????????We need to BE the publishing platform.
????????????We need to BE to source of breakthroughs.
????????????The reason people change their minds.
????????????The spark that starts the fire.
????????????The rev in revolution.
Great brands and great leaders own “the broken thing” in their industry that customers are putting up with.
By taking ownership of the problem, and addressing it, we can become the answer to that specific problem.
And become the place and source people look to for answers.
And that results in the one metric that keeps CEOs up at night: selling more.
