Employee Engagement and Green Behavior: Insights from the International Coastal Cleanup 2023

Hello LinkedIn community!

I hope this post finds you well. Today, I'd like to share my experience attending the International Coastal Cleanup 2023, which took place on a beautiful Saturday, September 16th, at Central Park, SM by the BAY. This inspiring event was co-hosted by SM Prime and SM Cares, two organizations deeply committed to ecological stewardship. What made it even more special was the presence of dedicated teams from SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. Head Office, SMX Convention Center , and Lanson Place Mall of Asia, Manila .

Now, you might be wondering, what does a coastal cleanup have to do with employee engagement and green behavior? Well, let's dive into it.

Why Employee Engagement Matters

Employee engagement has been a hot topic in the corporate world for quite some time, and for a good reason. Engaged employees are not only more productive and satisfied with their jobs, but they also contribute positively to their organizations, both internally and externally. In this context, we'll explore how initiatives like the International Coastal Cleanup play a crucial role in promoting green behavior among employees.

The Research Behind it

Recent studies, such as Luu's (2017) research on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior for the Environment (OCBE) in the hotel industry, shed light on the importance of green behavior among employees in daily activities. The study reveals a positive correlation between CSR and OCBE and emphasizes the role of corporate entrepreneurship and employee attachment styles in moderating this effect.
Additionally, Haldorai et al. (2022) delves into the factors driving hotel environmental performance. Their study highlights the direct impact of top management green commitment and green intellectual capital on green human resource management and, in turn, its effect on hotel environmental performance. This research underlines the significance of incorporating green initiatives within the corporate culture.

Bringing it Back to the International Coastal Cleanup

So, how does this all tie back to our coastal cleanup event? Well, events like this serve as a practical and engaging way to foster CSR, promote green behavior, and strengthen the bond between employees and their organizations. When employees actively participate in environmental initiatives, it not only benefits the environment but also enhances their sense of belonging and purpose within the company.

As we witnessed at the International Coastal Cleanup 2023, employees from different departments and backgrounds came together for a common cause. They engaged in activities that directly contributed to environmental conservation, creating a powerful sense of shared responsibility and pride. Such experiences can lead to increased employee engagement, improved organizational culture, and a more positive public image.

Conclusion

In conclusion, events like the International Coastal Cleanup 2023 provide an excellent platform for organizations to promote green behavior and engage their employees in meaningful ways. The research supports the idea that CSR and green initiatives can have a significant impact on organizational citizenship behavior for the environment and environmental performance.

As businesses continue to evolve, integrating green practices into their corporate culture is not just a trend; it's a necessity for a sustainable future. So, let's keep supporting and participating in events like these, where our actions speak louder than words.
