Employee Culture: What Leaders Need to Make a Difference

Employee Culture: What Leaders Need to Make a Difference

Leaders! Do you ever feel like you are loosing the battle against the organizational culture?

You have good intentions for your people...

You go out of your way to take care of your team...

You are working hard to meet the expectations handed down to you from higher up...

But your employees aren't showing up to take responsibility for themselves and their work ??

Instead you witness blaming, defensiveness, and tattle telling on each other.

They are busier avoiding responsibility and throwing each other under the bus than doing their work ??

You are stuck managing a widespread behavior across the team...

And it's exhausting to come up against the same obstacles day after day ??

Are you ready for something different?

? What would it mean to you if your employees were taking initiative?

? Watching your team get things done (and done well!) without you having to hand hold them or drag them to success.

? Hearing them support each other as they collaborate and work together in alignment.

? Feeling the strong bond of your team because they have each other's backs.

Well that's exactly the transformation my client Julie achieved with her team!

Two weeks ago I had a chat with Julie to debrief her progress and she told me that this success was a direct result of her work with me.

So, of course I asked her... Of all the work we did, what were the 3 things she implemented that had the most impact and here's what she shared:

1?? Understanding The Purpose behind Behavior

All behavior is purposeful ??

It is your employees best attempt in this environment to get their needs met.

Stepping out of trying to change the behavior into understanding it instead, changes your perception...

And increases your impact by taking a people-centered approach to this systemic situation.

Julie and I took a deep dive into employee needs & how culture emerges, while creating a causal layer analysis specific to her company's culture in order to gain the insight needed.

2?? Increasing Your Influence

Note this formula...

Connection + Trust = Influence

If you truly want to ignite internal motivation within your employees...

You are going to need to...

?? STOP giving them the solutions and rationalize everything from a business perspective.

? START connecting with them as humans first, & support them in creating solutions that also meets their needs (not just the business needs).

THEN intentionally build trust with these unique individuals.

This is how you will truly reach them where it counts and start influencing the REAL shifts in behavior (that you won't need to manage).

Note: Because of the variety of trust styles... Each individual will need to hear, see and know something different from you to trust you, their teammates, the leadership in this company, and the company itself.

Julie and I partnered to create the trust building strategies that shifted the her position from respected leader to trusted ally.

3?? Reinforcing Your Anchoring Values

Next step is getting CRYSTAL clear on the values that will anchor the change you want to see within the culture.

What values make the difference? Well you'll get that information from step 1 & step 2 ;)

?? Now, you'll be tempted to post these values on the wall and call it a day.

DON'T!!!

Because employees know the difference between what we say our values are and what really goes on around here.

INSTEAD START...

? Weaving in these values in your everyday communication.

? Demonstrating these values in BIG ways.

? Implementing systems that support these values.

Julie & I customized a long-term strategy in how she was leveraging her new level of influence to bring these values to life within her company's culture.

Today, the team's culture is her strongest asset because she...

1?? Understands the Purpose behind Behavior in her Company

2?? Increased her Influence and is now seen as the Trust Ally

3?? Reinforces Anchoring Values that underpins the Culture she desires

Now this is all of this is easier said than done!

Even for Julie who was not new on the block... When we started working together she had 20+ years of management experience and a big portfolio of business management training.

But with an expert coach like me in your corner and the right custom people-centered strategies, transforming culture like Julie has for her team is possible.

If these are the type of results you want for you and your team, you're in luck!
